Two teams with an eye on the Premier League clash at the CBS. Coventry can look back over their first fifteen matches with real satisfaction and pride, but teams have fallen out of the promotion places from more secure positions in the past, so they will be driven for more by Frank Lampard. Ryan Mason has endured a very up-and-down opening to his managerial career, but there is all still to play for from a West Brom perspective.

📈 Coventry v West Brom Form & Stats

Coventry suffered their only defeat so far this season a couple of weeks ago at Wrexham, but have climbed back on the horse since then and have won back-to-back matches against Sheffield United and Stoke City. Those wins have been celebrated hugely by Frank Lampard, who, more than most, will recognise how important it is from a team character perspective that they managed to pick up that winning momentum straight away again following a loss.

The Sky Blues still lead the way in the table, but also in many statistics. Coventry have scored the most goals, but also kept the highest number of clean sheets too. They also have the highest expected goal numbers, most shots on target, and highest number of big chances created.

West Brom picked up a much needed victory in their last Championship match before the international break. The 2-1 home win over Oxford gave Mason some much needed breathing space over the last couple of weeks, though Mason will also recognise that results should still be better than they are.

There is a foundation on which to build though. From a defensive expected goals point of view the Baggies are fifth, it is going forwards that improvements need to be made. They are 20th for expected goals for, and 22nd for big chances created. It is little wonder that Aune Heggebø has had so little to feed on.

📔 Coventry v West Brom Formation & Team News

Coventry tend to use a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system, especially at home, but they have turned to a 3-4-3 at times as well, depending on their opponent.

Coventry are almost at full strength with Jack Rudoni and Ephron Mason-Clark their only doubts ahead of this clash. Having either available would be a big bonus, though Rudoni would be unlikely to start due to the length of his absence. Having Rudoni back for this section of the season though could be massive for Lampard given how good we know he can be.

Two first teamers in Jed Wallace and George Campbell are still expected to be out for this clash for West Brom, but we continue to expect that they will push ahead with their usual 4-2-3-1 shape with Isaac Price the big danger. The young Northern Ireland international looks by far West Brom's biggest threat just in behind a central striker.
