Leeds welcome Aston Villa with their record at Elland Road pretty strong so far. Daniel Farke’s side have lost just one of their four matches at home, though the manager is rumoured to be under a bit of pressure as we enter a hectic period of the season.

Aston Villa have recovered from their slow start to the campaign and now sit sixth in the Premier League. Their away record still needs some work with Villa winning just one of their five games on the road this season.

📈 Leeds v Aston Villa Form & Tactics

Daniel Farke is under increasing pressure as Leeds boss with his side losing four of their last five matches before the international break. The rumour is that Farke has up to five games to salvage his managerial career at Leeds with the club slipping closer to the relegation zone with each passing week.

I think it would be harsh to dismiss Farke at this stage, Leeds have shown real promise at home and there is enough turbulence elsewhere in the Premier League to suggest that they’ve got a decent chance of staying up under Farke’s guidance. That being said, Farke has never managed to crack the Premier League before and the flurry of managerial changes at other clubs may tempt Leeds to make a similar move.

Aston Villa look much more complete now than they did in the early weeks of the campaign, but there are still glaring issues for Villa on the road. This isn’t anything new, Villa have routinely struggled with their away matches since Unai Emery took the job with Aston Villa conceding 31 goals across their 19 away matches last season (1.63 per game).

Aston Villa have avoided defeat against the newly promoted sides so far, earning a 1-1 draw against high flying Sunderland and beating Burnley 2-1 when they came to Villa Park. They will be wary of the threat that Leeds pose at home, especially given their own issues on the road so far this season.

📔 Leeds v Aston Villa Formation & Team News

Leeds were lining up in a 4-3-3 which was the shape that Farke relied on for most of last season as Leeds earned promotion from the Championship. This has shifted slightly with the inclusion of Sean Longstaff in the side which has made Leeds’ shape appear more as a 4-1-4-1 when they have the ball, with Longstaff and Stach pushing on ahead of Ethan Ampadu.

Leeds will have to start being bolder at home if they want to survive in the Premier League this season. Their performances so far at home have been admirable, but the two games which they’ve drawn at Elland Road could have easily been wins if Leeds were more clinical with the opportunities that fell their way.

Aston Villa line up in a 4-2-2-2 shape when in possession with the wide players tucking inside to allow the fullbacks to maintain width. Villa like to build through the thirds, despite the recent trends we’ve seen in the Premier League with sides being more direct.

Aston Villa are expected to be without centre back duo Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings for this encounter, with Unai Emery also having to assess some of his players that have returned from international duty, particularly those that have been in South America.

📊 Leeds v Aston Villa Key Stats

  • Aston Villa have won just one of their five away matches this season.

  • Leeds have lost just one of their five matches at Elland Road this term.

  • Emi Buendia is Villa’s top contributor in the Premier League this season with three goals and two assists.

  • Leeds have lost four of their last five matches across all competitions.
