West Ham v Crystal Palace
📅
Kick Off: Saturday 18th January at 15:00
🏆
Competition: Premier League
Freshly-appointed Graham Potter will be looking to make it back-to-back wins for the Hammers as Crystal Palace travel to the London Stadium.
⭐ West Ham v Crystal Palace Best Bet
New West Ham manager Graham Potter got off to a winning start in his first match by beating Fulham 3-2, but he more than waved his magic wand when you analyse the match as a whole.
The Hammers had 4 total shots and scored with 3 of them!
They lost the xG battle 1.12-1.70 and were fortunate that Fulham missed a lot of chances. If they play like that again here then there’s a good chance they’ll lose. This is a Crystal Palace side with only 1 loss in 10 Premier League games and they are in much better form and rhythm compared to the start of the season. Backing the visitors draw no bet looks like a smart option with our stake refunded if the game ends in a draw.
🟢 West Ham v Crystal Palace #WhatOddsPaddy Tip
Palace are priced at 2.62 to win this game but by adding most corners and most shots on target then the odds rise to 10/1. This is well within their reach should they manage to get the 3 points. Palace have 1 defeat in 10 games and have won 3 of their last 4 EPL fixtures on the road. They average 5 shots on target per game compared to West Ham’s 4.30 and 4.80 corners per game as opposed to 4.70. In midweek, West Ham lost the corner count 3-6 to Fulham and the shots on target count 3-5.
👕 West Ham v Crystal Palace Predicted XI
🔍 West Ham v Crystal Palace Players to Watch
🔵 Eberechi Eze
The England international averages 3.40 shots per 90 which is the 5th-highest rate of any player in the Premier League. He is Palace’s key man and recently found some great form, scoring or assisting in each of his last 4 games. His confidence levels are clearly much higher and he will always back himself to score. Eze often racks up cheap shot attempts from set pieces and is not afraid to shoot from long range. He only had 1 attempt v Leicester but Eze had 4 or more shots in all of his last 3 games before that. Taking him to have 4 or more again here looks well within his reach facing a Palace side that just conceded 21 shots to Fulham.
🟣 Lucas Paqueta
This is a massive price on a player who just scored in midweek and will be operating in a far more advanced role compared to normal.
Graham Potter has inherited a West Ham side with an injury crisis in attack. The likes of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville are all ruled out or slightly doubtful.
Potter’s solution was to use Lucas Paqueta in a false 9 role and he was rewarded by scoring their 3rd goal v Fulham. The Brazilian international normally plays far deeper but in this more advanced role his chances of scoring or assisting are greatly improved, so this bet looks terrific value.
🔵 Will Hughes
He has racked up the most cards of any player in the Palace squad in the Premier League (7) and also has a very high foul rate of exactly 2 per 90. The Eagles rely on him to do the dirty work and in a London derby, this could be the type of fixture in which he gets stuck in. Taking Hughes to commit 2 or more fouls here looks like a generous price and we only need him to effectively match his seasonal average so far. West Ham drew 18 fouls v Palace in Graham Potter’s first match in charge which could also indicate a change of style which increases Hughes’ chances in this market.

💻 West Ham v Crystal Palace Form and Tactics
Despite a change of manager West Ham are not in bad form with only 2 defeats in 7 EPL games, which were against Liverpool and Man City
Graham Potter won his first match in charge, 3-2 v Fulham and used a 4-2-3-1 counter-attacking system with Lucas Paqueta employed as a false 9.
After a slow start to the season Palace have picked up form and only lost 1 of their last 10 games which was against Arsenal. They haven’t lost away since 21st October.
Crystal Palace are very identifiable under the management of Oliver Glasner in their 3-4-2-1 formation which is counter-attack-orientated.
