Wolves welcome Manchester United with Rob Edwards desperate for a victory, having lost all three of his matches in charge of the Wanderers so far, leaving Wolves still marooned at the bottom of the Premier League on two points.

Manchester United have only lost one of their last eight matches in the Premier League, but three of their last five matches have ended in draws. United failed to beat West Ham at Old Trafford last time out, marking the second home game where they’ve failed to win after losing to 10-man Everton.

📈 Wolves v Man United Form & Tactics

It’s looking increasingly concerning for Wolves with the Wanderers not being able to benefit from the ‘new manager bounce’ with Rob Edwards losing each of his three matches in charge so far. Wolves haven’t even managed to score a goal across these matches, losing each of their last five games to nil.

Home form is always crucial for a side in a relegation battle, and Wolves have arguably been worse in front of their home fans than they have been on the road this season. They’ve conceded 17 goals across their seven home matches (2.42 per game), which is five more than they’ve conceded on the road.

Manchester United can’t seem to find any consistency with their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, followed up by a tame 1-1 draw against West Ham. United have only won one of their last five matches in the Premier League, with two of their last three away trips ending in draws.

The pressure continues to rise on Ruben Amorim, and his press conference after the draw against West Ham was particularly prickly. This is a must-win game for the Red Devils; anything other than a convincing victory would ramp up the pressure on Amorim, who constantly sees his side take one step forward and then two back.

📔 Wolves v Man United Formation & Team News

Wolves have continued to line up in a 3-4-3 under Rob Edwards, but this hasn’t changed the outcome in any of their matches so far. The slight glimmer of hope that Edwards will have is that their last two defeats have only been by one goal, marking a shift from the high tallies they were conceding under Vitor Pereira at the start of the campaign.

This is a very slim bit of positivity, but Wolves don’t have much else to go on at the moment. No player in the Wolves squad has scored more than one goal in the Premier League this season, which is a stat that is just as alarming as their defensive woes this campaign. There is talent in this Wolves side. Jorgen Strand Larsen netted 14 goals in the Premier League last term, and the Wanderers’ midfield contains the appropriate aggression for the Premier League.

However, Wolves will be without their best player here in Joao Gomes, who is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards. This is a massive miss for Wolves as their midfield can look a little lightweight without him.

Manchester United will also line up in a 3-4-3, with Amorim insistent on using this shape and system despite the lack of consistency that United have endured under his tenure. United do look more positive in the final third with the additions they brought in during the summer, but their overall organisation has suffered as a result.

De Ligt is a doubt for this encounter, having missed the 1-1 draw against West Ham. United missed his physicality at the back in that game, but the good news for Amorim is that Lisandro Martinez returned to the squad against West Ham last time out and should be reintegrated into the side in the coming weeks.
