Ronaldo is on a personal mission to become the top all time goalscorer in the World Cup Qualifiers. This achievement may seem arbitrary to most, but Ronaldo is driven by the need to break every record he can - and he’s only two goals away from this one.

He scored two goals against Armenia last time out and has scored in each of his last four matches for Portugal. This includes scoring against Spain, Germany and Denmark, which is a record that challenges the narrative that he can no longer perform at this level. 

I do think it’s a massive risk having a 40 year old as your starting striker heading into a World Cup, but in fairness, Ronaldo is not every 40 year old. With 140 goals across his 222 caps for Portugal since 2003, it’s a solid option to back Ronaldo to continue his goalscoring form here.

There’s no player more likely to find the back of the net in an England shirt than Harry Kane. He’s been the most reliable England player for the last five seasons and has scored an impressive 73 goals across his 108 caps for the Three Lions.

Kane had two shots against Andorra, with one of these attempts finding the target. It was a quiet performance from the Bayern Munich striker but it’s not really fair to single him out, seeing as the performance as a whole for England was pretty pedestrian.

Kane scored in his five previous England appearances prior to the game in Andorra - England’s 2-0 win over the lowest ranked side in their group was the first of Thomas Tuchel’s games in charge of England in which Kane failed to find the back of the net. 

Erling Haaland is a little short for me (1.30) to back as an anytime scorer in this game, which is expected to be dominated by Norway. Sorloth represents a solid alternative who can look to extend his excellent record for his nation against a Moldovan side that have conceded 14 goals across their four qualifying matches so far (3.5 per game).

Sorloth has netted 25 goals across his 64 caps for Norway which is a solid record, even if it will always exist in the shadow of Erling Haaland. Sorloth has scored three goals across his four appearances in World Cup qualifying so far, one of which came against Moldova in Norway’s 5-0 win over the lowest ranked side in the group.
