Charlton Double Chance

Odds: 1.53

A run of three straight defeats put pay to Wycombe’s prospects of automatic promotion, so there is bound to still be some lingering disappointment around the squad. That sequence started with a 4-0 setback at home to Charlton, so this certainly isn’t a clash they are necessarily looking forward to.

Since beating Bolton in January, only champions Birmingham, runners-up Wrexham and an unpredictable Peterborough have got the better of Nathan Jones’ side. They too had half a chance of automatic promotion, but nowhere near to the extent of Wycombe’s opportunity. Therefore, the Addicks can approach this contest in quite high spirits and relish the prospect of facing a wounded opponent.

Wanderers have struggled all season against the better clubs at this level. In their eight season meetings v the top four, they returned one victory and seven defeats. This offers further encouragement for the away side to take a lead back to The Valley for the second leg.

Matt Godden to have 1+ Shots on Target ↔️

Odds: 1.50

Only Jay Stansfield and Charlie Kelman recorded more League One goals this season compared to Charlton’s Matt Godden. The former Coventry City man spent the last four seasons in the Championship, netting either just above or just below double-digit goals in all of those seasons. Therefore, dropping down to League One was always likely to see him amongst the goals. He currently stands on 18, which includes four in his previous four.

Godden is also in the top 10 in the league in relation to the most shots on target. He is clearly the number one goal threat in the Addicks' ranks and getting him on the ball in and around the final third is of paramount importance to them getting the result they desire. The striker is on an eight-match run of recording an attempt on target.

First Half Result - The Draw

Odds: 2.05

Although recent form suggests there should be one clear winner of this play-off tie, it is never that straightforward. At the end of the day, Charlton are the away side here, so they don’t necessarily have as much pressure on their shoulders to win. Nathan Jones could easily set up his side to initially be hard to beat. A draw suits them just nicely. Mike Dodds, the Chairboys' Head Coach, perhaps wouldn’t be so dismissive to take a draw here, especially having lost 4-0 to Charlton quite recently. This means the early exchanges could be somewhat tentative, tactical and cagey.

No team has been drawing more matches at half time in League One this season than Wycombe. This has happened in 27 of their 46 fixtures, which is a significant amount and cannot be rated as a coincidence after a whole season. The Addicks are not too far behind on 23, plus only Wrexham have been drawing more times at half time in away league contests. There is plenty pointing towards a tight opening 45.
