Fleetwood can make life difficult for Sheffield United when the two teams meet at Highbury Stadium in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The Cod Army have made an encouraging start to their League Two campaign under Matt Lawlor, going unbeaten across their opening six matches and conceding only four goals.

They have also carried a regular threat at the other end, scoring in five of their six league matches and in each of the previous two rounds of the EFL Cup.

Therefore, Fleetwood may sense an opportunity to cause an upset against a Sheffield United side that have won just two of their opening seven league matches of the season and lost 1-0 at home to Wolves on Sunday.

The Blades have conceded multiple goals in three of their last five league outings, so in-form Fleetwood look well placed to score at least once on Wednesday night.

Wolves look capable of giving Everton a tougher test on Wednesday night than the pre-match odds suggest. 

The Old Gold go into this tie in good shape after losing just one of their opening six Championship matches and snatching a last-gasp 1-0 win at Sheffield United on Sunday. 

Wolves have now scored in all eight of their matches across all competitions this season.

Cesar Peixoto’s side have been particularly dangerous away from home, scoring multiple goals on Championship trips to Birmingham and West Ham as well as at Sheffield Wednesday earlier in this competition. 

While Everton are rarely easy to break down under David Moyes, they have conceded in two of their last three Premier League matches. 

Wolves also scored in all three meetings between the teams last season, so I’m backing them to make the net bulge at least once on Merseyside.

Coventry and Aston Villa have both made difficult starts to the season, but I think the visitors can avoid defeat inside 90 minutes in Wednesday night’s EFL Cup third round tie. 

Unai Emery’s side are still searching for their first Premier League win after collecting just one point from a possible 12 so far.

However, they did claim an eye-catching 3-2 victory away at Club Brugge in the Champions League last week.

Villa’s new-look squad remains a work in progress, but even if Emery makes changes to his starting XI, he should still be able to name a side capable of causing Coventry problems.

Confidence is likely to be low in the Sky Blues camp, with Frank Lampard’s side losing all four of their opening Premier League matches and suffering their heaviest defeat yet in Sunday’s 5-0 hammering at home to Brighton. 

Villa may also be struggling for form, but their greater quality can tell here and I’m backing the visitors on the double chance.

Manchester United are difficult to trust as odds-on favourites when they welcome Brighton to Old Trafford in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils have won just one of their opening four Premier League matches, with Sunday’s 1-0 derby defeat to 10-man Manchester City the latest disappointment in a difficult start to the campaign. 

That does not bode well ahead of a meeting with a Brighton side who have made an impressive start to the season.

The Seagulls are comfortably the leading scorers in the Premier League after four rounds of matches, racking up 13 goals, with five coming at Coventry on Sunday and three at Chelsea last month.

United have already conceded multiple goals away at Hull and at home to Ipswich this season, so Fabian Hurzeler’s side have to be fancied to find the net at least once at Old Trafford.
