Motherwell Double Chance @ 1.53

Given the contrasting starts that these two teams have made to their respective seasons, I think the value lies with Motherwell on Saturday afternoon. While the Steelmen are still searching for their maiden league win of the campaign, they are yet to taste defeat, most notably taking points off the likes of Rangers, St Mirren and Hearts.

As for Aberdeen, they are propping up the Scottish Premiership table with one point and are yet to score in four top-flight outings this term. Jimmy Thelin’s team have lost to Falkirk and drawn with Livingston in their last two league games at home, and Motherwell will represent an even tougher proposition. With that in mind, Jens Berthel Askou’s visitors look well worthy of support to avoid defeat inside 90 minutes on Saturday.

Both Teams to Score @ 1.74

While Aberdeen have been shot-shy during the early weeks of the season, I think they could trouble what looks like a shaky Motherwell defence. The visitors have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their five Scottish Premiership matches this season, including each of their last three. However, it is worth noting that Motherwell did make the net bulge in each of those four contests, one of which was an action-packed 3-3 draw away at Hearts.

The Steelmen's front-foot approach this season has seen them give up chances on a regular basis, and I think Aberdeen carry the necessary firepower to take advantage. Yes, the Dons blanked against Livingston last weekend, but the hosts should enjoy more freedom in the final third against a leaky Motherwell backline that won’t be deployed in a low block.

Aberdeen and Motherwell will square off at the quarter-final stage of the Scottish League Cup at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.

Despite their slow start to the season, Aberdeen are 2.12 favourites with Motherwell big outsiders at 3.50, while the draw has been priced up at 3.30.

🔴 Aberdeen in a Rut

Aberdeen have not had a huge upturn in form since winning last season’s Scottish Cup. In fact, the Dons are sitting bottom of the Scottish Premiership table, with their only point of the season coming against Livingston in a goalless draw at Pittodrie last time out.

Jimmy Thelin’s team have looked toothless in attack this season, failing to score a single goal in four Scottish Premiership matches so far. What’s more, Aberdeen could only muster up two on-target efforts in their most recent home game with Livingston.

Last Saturday’s stalemate with the Lions means that the hosts have won just five of their last 31 Scottish Premiership matches.

Motherwell, the Draw Specialists

Motherwell have been the draw specialists during the early weeks of this season’s Scottish Premiership, with each of their opening five league games of the season ending all square.

Despite still waiting for their first top-flight triumph of the season, new manager Jens Berthel Askou has received a lot of praise for rebranding the Steelmen into an exciting, attack-minded side.

That can be attributed to four of Motherwell’s opening five league games of the season seeing both teams get on the scoresheet, a sample that includes a 3-3 draw away at Hearts and a 2-2 stalemate when hosting Kilmarnock.

Unlike recent campaigns, Motherwell have been one of the best-behaved sides in this season’s Scottish Premiership, picking up just six yellow cards across their five matches so far.

📊 Aberdeen v Motherwell H2H

Aberdeen can draw some confidence from their record in this fixture in recent years. The Dons have avoided defeat in eight of their last nine encounters with the Steelmen, triumphing in each of the two tussles between the pair at Pittodrie last term.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals would have been a winning selection in each of the two meetings at this venue last season.

Two of last season’s three showdowns featured five or more bookings, with Aberdeen receiving a red card during one of those contests.
