Argentina, as expected, are comfortably through to the quarter-finals, courtesy of back-to-back wins against Canada and Chile. Peru started the campaign well, with a hard-fought draw against Chile, but narrowly lost to Canada after a sending-off changed the shape of the game.
The Peruvians will have to hope for a historic victory and a huge upset here to have any chance of progressing to the knockouts and hope that Chile and Canada play out a draw in their final game. More than likely, however, they will be playing for pride and aiming to put out a respectable performance against the best team in the world.
The Argentines will want to break clear of Uruguay as the joint record winners of the competition. Anything but a historic 16th Copa America title would be seen as a disappointment to Argentine fans.
Peru have won the trophy on two occasions and most recently were runners-up in the 2019 edition. A win here will keep hopes alive of a third title.
Argentina v Peru Best Bets
Argentina will likely rotate in this game with qualification already secured. However, even a fully rotated Argentina side would still be packed full of quality across the pitch and still strong favourites for the game.
Given they should have enough individual quality to still see off the game and they might be a little disjointed, we believe it is best to lean towards a safe unders play.
Peru have shown they can keep scorelines down, even when they aren’t able to score themselves, and Argentina have no real incentive to go all-out attack as even a draw would comfortably see them through as group winners.
The handicap line is set at -1 for Argentina but they could easily end up grinding out another 1-0 victory as they did against Chile. Backing Argentina to win with under 4.5 goals in the match looks like the smartest play here.

📊 Argentina Form and Stats
Argentina have started as expected with 2 wins and no goals conceded. Although Canada produced an xG of 1.00, Chile’s paltry 0.14 shows the strength of this Argentinian defensive line. In an attacking sense, you could say they have underperformed, with a 2.87 xG against Chile and 3.38 against Canada.
Their impressive run continues with just four defeats in their last 50 games. Lautaro Martinez tops the Copa America goalscoring charts with two goals whilst Emiliano Martinez is the only goalkeeper so far to have two clean sheets.
📊 Peru Form and Stats
Peru have struggled to score in recent times but have also kept things fairly tight at the back. Eight of their last nine games have had less than three goals scored and they’ll be hopeful of keeping the scores down to have any chance of sneaking a win against Argentina here.
They were the better side against Canada in the first half but the game turned on its head when Michael Araujo was sent off with half an hour to go and Canada took advantage with a 1-0 win on the night.
Paraguay’s opener was a tough 0-0 draw with Chile, where they were perhaps edged out on the balance of play but still competitive. It’s difficult to see where their goals will come from, however, with Peru scoring just two goals in their last four matches.
⚔️ Argentina v Peru Head-to-Head
The two sides have met on 57 occasions with Peru winning just seven of those times. Argentina have won 36 and the two sides were level on 14 occasions. What will be more concerning for Peruvian fans is that Peru have not beaten Argentina in their last 14 attempts, a run that stretches back to 1997, an entirely different century.
