Juventus picked up three yellow cards in the first leg meeting between the sides, with two of these being brandished towards Juan Cabal in a 10 minute period - leading to the Juventus player being given his marching orders. 

Juventus could have picked up even more cautions than the three they ended up with, Luciano Spalleti’s side committed 18 fouls in Turkiye and Spalletti himself was shown a yellow card highlighting the overall frustration which engulfed the Old Lady on their trip to Turkiye last week.

Juventus have picked up 15 yellow cards across their nine matches in the Champions League this term, working out to an average of 1.66 per game. I can see that record improving here given that Juventus are three goals behind in this tie, so will have to go on the front foot from the very start of this contest.

Galatasaray have been pretty good at drawing cards from their opponents in the Champions League this season too, seeing their opponents pick up 19 yellow cards across their nine matches in the competition (2.1 per game).

Monaco mustered up just 20% possession in the first leg, as they opted for quite a pragmatic approach from the first whistle. They also weren’t helped by the red card. Because of that, they registered eleven fouls, to PSG’s four, resulting in two yellow cards and the red.

This selection also landed comfortably when these sides met in the league back in November.

Once again, Monaco were shown a straight red card - this time awarded to Thilo Kehrer for a last man challenge against his former club. Monaco were shown an additional three yellow cards.

Monaco have been an aggressive side this season, and they are averaging 2.57 cards per match, rising to 3.11 when playing away. If the game does get stretched, there should be space for PSG to exploit, which makes cynical fouls probable, and cards a target.

With Benfica in need of at least one goal to force Real’s hand here (and realistically probably more than one given their hosts’ propensity for goals this season), I’d expect the Norwegian midfielder to play a fairly big hand in their siege on Thibaut Courtois’ goal.

He’s had a shot in each of his last six appearances across the Portuguese league and the Champions League (with more than one in five of those), and 12 of his last 15 appearances in those two competitions have seen him muster at least one effort at goal.

Across the two recent games against Real Madrid, he’s had five shots from his deeper midfield position, suggesting a willingness to break the game open and keep opposing keepers honest. He’s also averaged just over 88 minutes per game across that 15-match sample, so there’s a high chance we see him on the pitch for the whole game, maximising the chance of getting this selection up.

With shots in six out of his eight Champions League league phase appearances too, it shows he is not just padding his stats against generally inferior opponents in the domestic game, but is happy taking on the best pedigree that Europe has to offer in games against Juventus (2 shots), Napoli (3), and Chelsea (1).

That means the visitors can afford to lose by one or two goals, and they will still progress to the next round.

Still, Galatasaray will want to keep things tight, knowing that they won’t be able to find as much success in the final third as they did on home turf. They are likely to sit in a deep, pragmatic block, aiming to keep things compact. That means Juventus could control possession and exert a lot more dominance on the game than they did in the first leg. 

Juventus managed just seven shots in the reverse, but they were reduced to ten men in the 67th minute, and this should be a very different game. They are averaging 18.39 shots per game at the Allianz Stadium, with 6.5 shots on target. That has translated to an average of 4.61 opposition saves per game, so Ugurcan Cakir will have to keep his wits about him.
