Aston Villa v Liverpool
📅
Kick Off: Wednesday 19th February at 19:30
🏆
Competition: Premier League
📺
Watch Live: TNT Sports 2
Aston Villa host Liverpool on Wednesday night, hoping to turn their form around after managing just 1 win from their last 5. Meanwhile, Liverpool will be eager to make a statement following a frustrating draw against Everton and an edgy victory against Wolves – they can extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points with a win here.
⭐ Aston Villa v Liverpool Best Bet
Liverpool look like a great bet at these odds, mainly due to their impressive away form. The Reds have won 9 of their 13 away games this season – by far the best record in the league. In contrast, Aston Villa have been inconsistent at home, winning just 6 of their 13 matches. While they’ve only lost once at Villa Park, that defeat came against Arsenal, the only team close to Liverpool’s level this season.
Villa’s struggles in attack could prove costly, they average 1.4 goals per game, a modest return for a side with European ambitions. This is even more problematic given their defensive vulnerabilities this season, they have conceded 38 goals this year (1.52 per game) giving them one of the weaker records in the league. Villa will also be without several key players for this clash including Leon Bailey, Ezri Konsa, Amadou Onana and potentially Boubacar Kamara.
Liverpool have been outstanding at both ends of the pitch. They boast the league’s best attack and the second-strongest defence, making them well-equipped to punish Villa’s shortcomings. Odds of 1.87 represent good value for the Reds to come out on top here.
🟢 Aston Villa v Liverpool ABC Exclusive Boost
The Reds are unbeaten away in the league this season (9 wins, 4 draws) which is the best record in the league, while Villa have won just 6 of their 13 matches at Villa Park.
While we think Liverpool will take another step towards the title here, Villa still pose more than enough of a threat to get on the scoresheet, particularly at home where their goals per game rises to a respectable 1.6. They’ve made a couple of attacking signings in Rashford and Asensio, who both looked dangerous in their first starts.
Villa’s defensive record is a concern, they’ve conceded 1.52 goals per game – the weakest record in the top 10. Liverpool look well positioned to exploit this, boasting the league’s best attack, averaging 2.4 goals per game. While the Reds have been good defensively, they still concede on average of 0.96 goals per game. This fixture ended in a 3-3 draw last term and we fancy the hosts to get on the scoresheet again here.
Both teams tend to generate a high number of corners per game while also allowing a decent amount against. Villa average 6.68 corners a game and concede 4.28, while Liverpool see 6.44 corners for and 4.00 against per game. This looks primed for an open and entertaining clash, potentially leading to high corner counts for both sides.
👕 Aston Villa v Liverpool Predicted XI
🔍 Aston Villa v Liverpool Players to Watch
⚫ Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah has been in sensational form this season. His output has been ridiculous with 23 goals and 14 assists in just 25 appearances. He is a constant attacking threat, averaging 3.76 shots per game – the highest in the league. More importantly for this bet, he ranks second behind Haaland in shots on target, averaging 1.96 per match.
Aston Villa’s defensive record also suggests Salah will have opportunities to test the keeper. They concede an average of 11.5 shots per game and allow 4.2 shots on target, numbers that will also likely rise against a high-intensity Liverpool attack that is one of the best in the world at creating chances.
🟣 Morgan Rogers
Rogers has been Aston Villa’s most frequent fouler this season, averaging 1.62 fouls per game, far more than any other player in the squad. His aggressive style has also led to 8 yellow cards, highlighting his tendency to get stuck into challenges and sometimes reckless nature.
With Rogers being a near-certain starter and having played almost every minute for Villa this season, he seems highly likely to find himself in plenty of situations to commit a foul, especially against a dynamic Liverpool side who tend to draw around 10 fouls a game. Given his track record, this looks like solid value at odds of 2.30.

💻 Aston Villa v Liverpool Form and Tactics
Liverpool have enjoyed a near-flawless season, becoming the only team to win all 8 of their Champions League matches while also securing a place in the League Cup final. However, their performances in recent weeks have dipped slightly. A couple of draws has seen their lead over Arsenal narrow to 7 points.
This is a crucial game for Liverpool, with the pressure firmly on to maintain their title charge. Under Slot, they continue to press aggressively, much like they did under Klopp, while building attacks through quick, intricate passing. Their attack has been excellent this year, spearheaded by Salah who is having an all-time great Premier League season. Defensively, they have generally been solid, but mistakes have been starting to creep in in recent weeks and these will need to be tightened up here.
Aston Villa have had a solid season but have been held back by their poor away form. On the road, they’ve managed just 4 wins from 12 games, suffering 6 defeats in the process. Under Unai Emery, Villa employ a bold tactical approach, characterised by a high defensive line designed to compress space and disrupt opponents’ build-up play.
Typically lining up in a compact 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation, they rely on a mid-block strategy to limit direct passing lanes into the opposition’s forwards. While this approach has been effective at times, it does leave them vulnerable to quick, incisive attacks – something Liverpool will likely look to exploit.
