Sunday evening sees the first El Derbi Madrileño of the season as Atletico Madrid take on Real Madrid in what is sure to be an electrifying atmosphere at the Metropolitano Stadium. There is simply no better way to round off a weekend of exciting football action, and we have a whopping 44/1 bet builder to go with this tremendous clash.
Diego Simeone will look to get his side back on track in La Liga after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Valencia last weekend. Atleti return from Italy having faced Lazio on matchday one of the Champions League and will have left frustrated after failing to close out the game, conceding a 95th-minute equaliser, scored by Lazio’s goalkeeper, to share the spoils. Carlo Ancelotti and his Real Madrid side have a 100% record in the league so far this season with five wins from five. While it’s El Clasico that usually attracts most neutral interest, the Madridistas consider their rivalry against Atletico Madrid to hold greater significance, something that will be front of mind for the experienced Italian coach.
It is sure to be an amazing atmosphere as these Spanish giants lock horns. In recent times, this fixture has been closely contested which is a far cry from Real Madrid’s dominance between 1999 and 2013. The arrival of Argentinian Simeone snapped a winless run that stretched an incredible 25 games during that period.
The finer details of this exciting match will be explored in this article. Infact, two levels of an Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid bet builder have been handpicked using the Cheat Sheet. You don’t want to miss out.

Morata to be the difference maker?
Alvaro Morata began his career at Real Madrid and made his debut back in 2010. A move to Juventus was followed by a brief spell in England with Chelsea before the Spaniard signed for Los Blancos’ rivals Atletico. After a second spell with Juventus, Morata is now back playing for Simeone and this derby game will always hold a special significance for the forward.
Memphis Depay and Antoine Griezmann have started the season as the preferred partnership up top with Morata further down the pecking order. However, following an injury to Depay in the game against Rayo Vallecano, Morata grasped his opportunity with both hands, coming off the bench to bag a brace. This was followed by a hat-trick whilst away on international duty with Spain, as the national team captain helped dispatch Georgia 7-1.
In what’s bound to be an emotional game for the 30-year-old, there is every chance that Morata can be the match-winner here. Having netted in the 3-1 Copa Del Rey loss in the quarter-finals in January, he’ll be searching for just a second derby goal.
Atletico Madrid Team News
Simeone has a lengthy injury list to contend with as a number of first team players are currently out of action. Thomas Lemar picked up an achilles tendon injury in the defeat to Valencia and is expected to be out until 2024. World Cup winner Rodrigo de Paul is not due back until early October, while Caglar Soyuncu may have to wait a few more weeks for a first competitive start since his move from Leicester in the summer. Spanish youngster Pablo Barrios sustained an injury against Lazio on Tuesday night and is likely to be out until after the October internationals.
Depay would be an obvious miss with the muscle injury he sustained a few weeks ago, but Simeone has confirmed he may well be fit for the weekend having returned to first team training. Either way, the manager has plenty of headaches in terms of team selection but should be confident that Morata can lead the line effectively. Reinildo Mandava makes up the list of players in the treatment room.
Koke is pushing for a start having returned to full training this week and he may well join club stalwarts Saul Niguez and Marcus Llorente in a midfield three in the absence of Barrios. It’s likely that captain Griezmann will start alongside Morata upfront with Depay settling for a place on the bench.
More brilliance from Bellingham? Vamos!!!
Jude Bellingham has been simply sensational since joining Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for over £100 million. The England midfielder is writing his own scripts at the moment and is surely a future Ballon d’Or winner if he continues on his current trajectory. Not even Bellingham himself could have imagined the start he’s had in the Spanish capital having scored six goals in as many games for his new club. A goal against Ukraine for England highlights just how well he’s playing at the moment for both club and country.
The former Birmingham City midfielder was seen shouting ‘Vamos’ on international duty which shows how well he has settled into his new surroundings. The midfielder said he was trying to “embrace the culture from a football and the life perspective in Spain, because I’m loving it and I hope to be there for many years.”
A last-gasp debut goal in the Champions League against Union Berlin on Wednesday evening demonstrates just what a big game player Bellingham is becoming. The Real Madrid faithful will hope he can produce something similar as he gets a first taste of El Derbi Madrileño.
Real Madrid Team News
Ancelotti will have been disappointed to lose experienced defender Dani Carvajal in midweek. The Spaniard picked up a muscle injury during training and missed out on the Champions League opener on Wednesday. Lucas Vazquez deputised in an unfamiliar right back position and will likely keep his place if Carvajal misses out.
Los Blancos have other first team players that are injury-stricken and won’t feature this weekend. Young Turkish prodigy Arda Guler will have to wait for his debut following a move from Fenerbahce while Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois have been ruled out for the season. There is some positive news for Ancelotti as he confirmed that Vinicius Junior will play against Las Palmas on Wednesday. The Brazilian hasn’t played since the end of August but may not be risked in the derby.
Following the summer departure of Karim Benzema, and in the absence of Vinicius, Rodrygo has enjoyed an extended run in the team alongside Joselu. The imperious Bellingham will be certain to play in behind the duo if Vinicius misses out.

✅ Real Madrid double chance
📈
Odds: 1.36
Simeone described the defeat to Valencia as the weakest performance during his tenure with the club, and the manager will be looking for more consistency from his side. Los Rojiblancos are in search of just a second home league win against their rivals in the last nine attempts.
This game will certainly be a test of Real Madrid’s early title credentials, but with Los Blancos winning this fixture 2-1 last season, the Double Chance market looks to be the way to go. We can expect the away side to be aggressive as they go in search of a fourth consecutive away win.

⚽ Both teams to score
📈
Odds: 1.75
Both sides have enjoyed a productive start to their respective league campaigns in front of goal, already scoring ten goals apiece. With the attacking talent on display, there is every chance that both sides could find the back of the net in what could be an end-to-end encounter.
Simeone’s side are not the defensive unit they once were and have already conceded at home this season against lowly Granada. Their frailties at the back were highlighted in the 3-0 loss to Valencia and Los Blancos should be confident of breaching Jan Oblak’s rearguard.
Atleti demonstrated their attacking prowess as they demolished Rayo Vallecano 7-0 away from home. Ancelotti meanwhile has seen his side concede in three of their five La Liga fixtures. However, going forward there is arguably no better team in the division. Both teams to score looks likely.

🎯 Jude Bellingham to have 1+ shot on target
📈
Odds: 1.57
It was reported in the media that Bellingham left training early on Friday due to ‘stomach issues’. However, club doctors quickly quashed any concerns that he would be ruled out, confirming the England midfielder would be fit to face Atleti on Sunday, no doubt a huge relief for Ancelotti.
The 20-year-old is demonstrating maturity beyond his years at the moment and is expected to have a big performance in the derby. In La Liga this campaign, Bellingham tops the shots on target statistic for his side, having registered a total of 12 shots, nine of which hit the target.
The midfield area is where this game will be won. The young French pairing of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni will boss the centre of the park, allowing Bellingham to venture forward to support the front pairing. There should be plenty of opportunities for shots on goal.

🛑 Alvaro Morata to commit 2+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.44
Morata will no doubt be really fired up for the derby and will be eager to get on the scoresheet against his former club. The Spaniard is however prone to making a number of persistent fouls as he attempts to bully the defence and this often lands the forward in trouble with the officials.
In the league campaign this season, Morata has already committed nine fouls in just over 230 minutes of football, averaging a foul every 25 minutes. With the pressure and intensity of the occasion, it would be no surprise to see the powerful forward put himself about.
Morata is likely to come up against the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez, both of whom will look to unsettle the forward. There could be some needle in these battles which could lead to some cynical fouls as tempers flair in the heat of a well-contested derby.

✅ Real Madrid to win
📈
Odds: 2.50
With contrasting results in the Champions League in midweek, both sides will have differing levels of confidence heading into this clash. The home side will be disappointed by conceding late in the day against Lazio, while the away side would have been ecstatic to grab a winner at the death against Union Berlin. These results could have an impact on the outcome of this game.

⚽ Both teams to score
📈
Odds: 1.75
Four of the last six meetings between these sides has resulted in both teams finding the back of the net and there is every chance we could see a repeat in this latest encounter. In this fixture last season, Ancelotti’s men ran out 2-1 winners and we could see a similar scoreline again come full time on Sunday evening. Therefore, we stick with this selection.

⚽ Jude Bellingham to score anytime
📈
Odds: 3.75
Bellingham is currently scoring at a rate of one goal per game and there is every chance he can extend his record to seven in seven starts. The midfielder is showing his commitment right to the final whistle and this could play into Los Blancos’ hands with the home side having returned from a trip to Italy in midweek. As fatigue sets in, Bellingham could come to the fore and prove to be the match winner.

🟨 Alvaro Morata to be shown a card
📈
Odds: 4.50
Whilst it was tempting to stick with Morata committing the two fouls in the game, a chance is taken on Spain’s captain finding his way into the referee’s book. Having been cautioned once already this season against Granada, there is every chance another card is shown in the derby. The boost for this selection really increases the odds, so the risk is not without reward.
