Barcelona to Win

The Catalans will hope to bounce back strongly from their midweek disappointment, and will view this as an ideal opportunity to do so. Barcelona completed the league double over Sevilla last season, winning those matches by an aggregate score of 9-2. In fact, Barcelona have won each of their last seven head-to-head encounters against Sevilla, scoring a total of 19 goals across those matches.

Barcelona are currently one of only two teams in the Spanish top-flight to still have their unbeaten record intact, and they will hope to maintain their imperious league form. The Catalans won 14 of their 19 away matches in the league last season, taking a total of 45 points from a possible 57. No side was more efficient at picking up points on their travels last term, which was a key reason for Barcelona’s success.

Both Teams to Score

Barcelona have kept just two clean sheets from their last eight matches in all competitions, and did concede in both league meetings against Sevilla last season.

Despite losing Dodi Lukebakio over the summer, Los Palanganas have actually looked more threatening in the final third than they did in the previous campaign, and have managed to get on the scoresheet in all seven matches this term. After finishing just one point above the relegation zone last season, the new era under manager Matias Almeyda has started well. Sevilla have won three of their opening seven league matches, and are battling in mid-table.

Barcelona will have to contend without Joan Garcia for this match, as the goalkeeper suffered a knee injury against Real Oviedo. Although he did make an error leading to a goal in that game, Garcia has made some key saves for the Catalans this season, and is a massive loss between the sticks.

Lamine Yamal to Score or Assist

Lamine Yamal’s first start since returning from injury was marked with a loss, but his return to the starting XI is a massive boost for Barcelona. After missing four games, the 18-year-old was brought on against Real Sociedad, and made an instant impact. It took him just one minute to provide the assist for Robert Lewandowski, which ended up being the winning goal as Barcelona held on to a 2-1 victory.

That was his fifth goal involvement of the season, meaning Yamal has now landed this selection in all four domestic appearances this campaign. Although he did draw a blank against PSG in midweek, Yamal still looked a real threat in the final third, registering a total of four shots, while also creating a big chance which was wasted.

The winger has proven to be so difficult to contain, showing a willingness to cut back in onto his stronger left foot and shoot, or go down the line and look to provide for one of his team-mates.

Gabriel Suazo to Commit 1+ Fouls

Having started in a left wing back role for the last three consecutive games, Gabriel Suazo will have the tough task of trying to contain Lamine Yamal this weekend. Nuno Mendes was really put through his paces in midweek, as he committed a total of four fouls, while also picking up a booking. Before that, Josep Chavarria made three fouls for Rayo Vallecano when faced with Yamal, again picking up a yellow card.

Yamal has already drawn 12 fouls from just five appearances this season, averaging 2.76 fouls drawn per 90, which is the highest in the Barcelona squad. Meanwhile, Suazo has committed a foul in four out of five matches this term, and is set for his toughest task yet on the flank. Suazo has shown a willingness to duel, and his average of 4.16 tackles per 90 this season suggests he will engage with Yamal, as opposed to backing off.

📈 Sevilla v Barcelona Form & Tactics

Sevilla have had the whole week to rest and prepare for this match, and they come into this clash having just beaten Rayo Vallecano 1-0. It was a late goal from Akor Adams which secured the points for the visitors, in what was a smash and grab victory. Vallecano racked up 1.89 xG from 18 shots, but failed to score. Meanwhile, Sevilla registered just four shots in total, but were more clinical with their chances.

After back-to-back losses to start the season, Sevilla have lost just one of their last five, looking much more confident than they did in the previous campaign.

In a tightly-contested midweek affair between the Spanish champions and the French champions, it was the Parisians who secured the spoils with a 90th-minute winner from Goncalo Ramos. Ferran Torres opened the scoring for the hosts after just 19 minutes, but PSG fought back, and equalised through Senny Mayulu just before half time.

Considering the visitors were without the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Joao Neves, Barcelona would have fancied their chances, but they succumbed to their first loss of the campaign.

📔 Sevilla v Barcelona Formation & Team News

Sevilla

Akor Adams scored his first goal of the season against Vallecano last time out, and will be pushing for a return to the starting XI, hoping to replace Isaac Romero. Adnan Januzaj was an injury doubt for that game last weekend, but did appear off the bench. However, Alexis Sanchez and Ruben Vargas are likely to retain their places in the forward line.

Matias Almeyda is fortunate to only have a small injury list to contend with, meaning he is likely to stick with the same XI that secured Sevilla’s third win of the season last weekend.

Barcelona

Wojciech Szczesny is the only realistic option for Hansi Flick in between the sticks, with Joan Garcia and Marc-Andre ter Stegen both ruled out. After a tough midweek game, the German manager could opt for some rotation this weekend, with Robert Lewandowski likely to replace Ferran Torres upfront. With injuries to Fermin Lopez and Raphinha, Barcelona should stick with Marcus Rashford, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal on Sunday.
