Hamburg have not kept a clean sheet in 18 matches

Roma have had quite a hectic pre-season ahead of their opening game of the season, failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five matches.

They saw BTTS in four of these games, conceding 2+ goals against the likes of Cardiff, Dortmund, Brighton and Cannes. This tends to be quite an entertaining game too, 19 of the last 20 head to head clashes have seen 2+ goals with six of the last 10 games seeing BTTS.

Fiorentina saw BTTS in their first competitive game of the season as they came away 4-1 winners over Benevento in the first round of the Coppa Italia. They also saw BTTS in their final two friendly matches, setting the stage for both teams to score here.

Heracles are trying to get back to the Eredivisie at the first time of asking after suffering relegation from the top flight last year.

They’ve made an entertaining start to the campaign, winning both of their games 4-3 and 3-2. The Eerste Divisie was a really great league for goals last year, boasting one of the highest averages of any league in Europe.

They take on an Utrecht side that have also seen BTTS in both of their matches so far, losing both matches against Maastricht and Vitesse. Their 19 home games produced 70 goals in the Eerste Divisie last season, working out to an average of 3.68 goals per game - a good example of the goal volume we commonly see in the Dutch second division.

This looks like a real mismatch on paper, but the underlying defensive data for Hamburg is pretty damning and sets up this DFB Pokal tie to be more competitive than the odds would suggest.

Hamburg have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 18 matches across all competitions, seeing BTTS in all four of their friendly matches and in each of their last nine games more widely.

The early rounds of the DFB Pokal tend to be pretty good for upsets, and Verl will be optimistic of at least getting on the scoresheet given the defensive issues that Hamburg have suffered over recent months.

Verl have seen BTTS in both of their league matches so far this season. They have lost both matches, but we only need them to score past one of the weakest defensive set ups across Europe over recent months.
