As for Newcastle, they earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Southampton at St James’ Park, despite losing defender Fabian Schar to a first-half red card.

Bournemouth v Newcastle Best Bets
Having played against Southampton for over an hour at St James’ Park with 10 men last weekend, opportunities were understandably few and far between for Newcastle.
However, talisman Alexander Isak still managed to chip in with a goal involvement, as he provided an assist for teammate Joelinton. With that in mind, the 2.0 for Isak to score or assist on Sunday holds plenty of appeal. The Swedish striker ended last season in sparkling form, netting 11 times across his final 12 top-flight appearances of the campaign, providing two assists for good measure across that stretch of games.
That doesn’t bode well for a Bournemouth side that are not exactly renowned for keeping clean sheets. Andoni Iraola’s side failed to keep the back door shut in 29 of their 38 Premier League games last season, with 14 of the 19 teams to visit the Vitality getting on the scoresheet. Thus, backing Newcastle’s main goal threat for either a goal or an assist against the Cherries makes plenty of sense at the prices.

📊 Bournemouth Form and Stats
After ending last season with three straight defeats, Bournemouth will have been pleased to have come away from their opening Premier League assignment of the season with a point. That being said, Andoni Iraola and his side may consider themselves slightly fortunate to have departed the City Ground with a draw in a match that was controlled by their hosts for long spells. The shot count was 14-13 in Nottingham Forest’s favour with the Tricky Trees racking up eight on-target efforts in comparison to Bournemouth’s four. Forest also enjoyed the majority of possession (53%) but ultimately couldn’t make their dominance count as Bournemouth battled back to bag a point. However, it’s worth noting that Iraola’s side were only one of two teams to come from behind to earn a point on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, with newly-promoted Leicester being the other.
Antoine Semenyo was Bournemouth’s second top scorer (8) in the Premier League last season and he got up and running for the new campaign at the first attempt last weekend. The Ghanaian forward registered no fewer than five shots on goal last Saturday, two of which hit the target. Semenyo was also fouled on two occasions.
Despite committing just eight fouls in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth picked up three bookings. Lewis Cook, who collected five cards last season, was one of the three Cherries players to have his name taken. The Bournemouth midfielder committed two fouls, as did substitute and teammate Justin Kluivert, who also earned himself a yellow card.
📊 Newcastle Form and Stats
Having played for over an hour with 10 men, Newcastle put in a brilliant backs-to-the-wall performance to edge out Southampton 1-0 at St James’ Park last Saturday. Eddie Howe’s side withstood a barrage of pressure, with the Saints dominating possession (78%), firing in 19 shots and
racking up 12 corners. However, the Magpies managed to hold firm and steal a crucial goal with their solitary shot on target.
While St James’ Park has long been a fortress for Newcastle under Howe, their away form last season didn’t make for particularly great reading. The Toon Army triumphed in just six of their 19 top-flight road trips last term, coming away empty-handed on no fewer than 11 occasions. If Newcastle have aspirations to gatecrash the top four like they did two seasons ago, then there will have to be a marked improvement in their road form this term.
Newcastle’s Joelinton put in a real all-action display and covered every blade of grass for his side last Saturday. The Magpies midfielder scored the only goal of the game, committed four fouls and also earned his side three free kicks. The Brazilian was one of several Newcastle players who committed multiple fouls last weekend, with Dan Burn (3) Bruno Guimaraes (2) Fabian Schar (2) and Lewis Hall (2) all giving away 2+ free kicks.
⚔️ Bournemouth v Newcastle Head-to-Head
Bournemouth avoided defeat in each of their two Premier League meetings with Newcastle last season. Dominic Solanke scored twice to give the Cherries a well-deserved 2-0 win in last term’s corresponding fixture, while the reverse meeting at St James’ Park threw up an action-packed 2-2 draw.
It’s also worth pointing out that Bournemouth picked up points from both of their league contests with the Magpies the season before last, with both games ending 1-1.
Newcastle’s last success against Bournemouth was a 1-0 win in the last 16 of the EFL Cup back in season 2022-23, a year in which Eddie Howe’s side went on to reach the final before coming up short against Manchester United.
