Bristol City v Norwich

🏆
Competition: Championship
📺
What TV Channel: Sky Sports Main Event
Two teams vying to enter the play-off positions come head-to-head on Friday night, as Bristol City take on Norwich.
City are just two points and one place below the top six, after gaining a late point at Sheffield United on Tuesday. Norwich faltered against another Sheffield side, as Wednesday came from 2-0 to win 3-2 at Carrow Road.
⭐ Bristol City v Norwich Best Bet
What you see is what you get with Bristol City, who are currently 7th in the Championship table, 7th in the home league table, and 8th in the xG table.
They failed to win at Ashton Gate last weekend, despite playing against the 10 men of Hull from the 14th minute onwards. They did, however, create 2.5 xG, a feat they matched in their previous home game against Middlesbrough, so they were seemingly let down by some poor finishing on the day.
Norwich have scored the 2nd-most goals in the Championship this season but conceded the 7th-highest total, so it is clear where the problem lies. It will be a worry, given the aptitude at creating chances Bristol City have shown in their last few home games.
It should also concern them that in the reverse fixture, the Robins limited Norwich to their lowest home xG of the season (0.4) in a 2-0 victory, so they may have the answers on how to stop the Canaries’ potent attacking force.
Their bottom-half level away record of just four wins from 18 games, combined with the above, makes Bristol City the pick here.
🟢 Bristol City v Norwich #WhatOddsPaddy Tip
Bristol City average three corners per half at home this season, so they may be able to reach four against a poor defensive outfit. Norwich average over two cards per game, so one in each half seems reasonable. The Robins opponents also average two cards per game.

🔴 George Tanner
This bet isn’t too much about George Tanner’s style of play but more about the position he will be playing.
As City’s starting right centre back, he will be in direct opposition to Borja Sainz, who is fouled on average twice per 90. Since returning from his lengthy ban, he has been fouled 18 times in six games.
Tanner himself averages one foul per 90, and has committed two fouls in five of his 19 starts in the league this season, including in two of his last four games.
Sainz has drawn an incredible 19 cards from opponents this season, at around 0.6 per 90, including three on Tuesday night against Sheffield Wednesday, so it would not surprise me if Tanner is down a card here, but he only has two so far this season so we think 2+ fouls is a better bet.
🟡 Borja Sainz
Although Bristol City managed to limit Norwich to very little in the reverse fixture, there is, of course, a chance that Norwich were having an off day, given they have the one of the best attacks in the division.
In Borja Sainz, they have the division’s top goalscorer too, with 16 goals from 32 starts. He has scored in 11 of 32 games, which works out at 34%. He’s priced up at 4.0 anytime which is a 25% chance of scoring, so we’re getting a slight bit of value.
Games at Ashton Gate are often low scoring, with seven of seven seeing two goals or fewer, but the Robins have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five games.

💻 Bristol City v Norwich Form and Tactics
Liam Manning’s side are a solid outfit, usually operating with a 3-4-2-1 formation. Scott Twine and Anis Mehmeti are usually given licence to roam behind the lone striker.
They’re a hard side down to pin down to a particular style, usually quite adaptable depending on the opposition. They take a lot of shots from outside the box. They’re a strong set-piece side, creating plenty but giving up very little.
Norwich have thrown away the most points from winning positions in the Championship this season. They’re a strong attacking side but have a poor attitude towards defending.
They like to try and dominate the ball through a 4-3-3 setup and get the ball wide left to Borja Sainz as often as possible.
