📈 Burnley v Everton Form & Stats

Facing league-leaders Arsenal was never going to be an easy task, but Everton were perhaps unfortunate to leave with nothing to show for their efforts at the weekend. Thierno Barry had a strong penalty claim controversially turned down in the second half, allowing the Gunners to hold on to their narrow 1-0 lead. Viktor Gyokores bagged the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

That result made it back-to-back losses for the Toffees, before that they were beaten 2-0 at Chelsea. However, they have had two tough fixtures, and will be hoping for some respite against 19th-placed Burnley. Excluding that recent rut, it has been a positive season for Everton, who currently sit 10th in the league, just five points off the European spots.

Meanwhile, Burnley have accumulated less than half of Everton’s points, highlighting their struggles in the top-flight. However, the Clarets did at least have something to cheer about at the weekend, as they stole a point from the Vitality Stadium. It was the definition of a smash and grab - Burnley managed just four shots at the weekend, all of which came after the 86th minute, but were somehow able to depart the South Coast with a point. Still, it was an important point for Burnley, and they will hope to build on that going forward.

📔 Burnley v Everton Formation & Team News

Scott Parker made wholesale changes at the weekend  - Joe Worrall was reintroduced to the defensive line after Maxime Esteve was ruled out. Lucas Pires and Kyle Walker both returned to the starting XI after serving a one-game suspension against Fulham, occupying the wing back positions. Zian Flemming led the line against Bournemouth, but could drop out for Broja after the former Chelsea man bagged his first goal for the Clarets last time out.

After suffering a hamstring injury against Chelsea, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall faces a spell on the sidelines, which has opened up an opportunity for Carlos Alcaraz to feature in attacking midfield. Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye are also unavailable for this game, having travelled to AFCON, which leaves David Moyes in a slight predicament. Dwight McNeil was preferred over Tyler Dibling to deputise on the right wing against Arsenal, but the £40 million summer signing will hope to establish himself in the absence of Ndiaye.
