Both Teams to Score

Although they were unfortunate to concede a late penalty against Liverpool last time out, Scott Parker’s defensive approach meant Burnley registered just three shots at Turf Moor, with zero on target.

However, the Clarets will certainly be more progressive against a Forest side who have leaked six goals in their last two Premier League outings.

Ange Postecoglou sides are not renowned for their defensive solidity - in fact Spurs kept just six clean sheets from 38 league games last season. But Burnley have not been so watertight either, and have actually conceded the highest xG tally in the Premier League this term.

Jaidon Anthony to have 1+ Shots on Target

Jaidon Anthony accounted for one of just three Burnley shots in total against Liverpool, but the winger has been the biggest threat for his side going forward this season.

He got on the scoresheet against Sunderland, as the Clarets won 2-0 to secure their first points since returning to the top flight, before also finding the back of the net in the next game against Man United at Old Trafford.

Anthony has only failed to land this selection against Liverpool this season, but the matchup against Forest should be an easier one for the 25-year-old.

  • Under Postecoglou last season, Spurs saw an average of 3.39 goals per game - the highest in the league.

  • Forest saw an average of 3.2 goals per game on the road last season, compared to 2.2 goals per game at the City Ground.

  • Jaidon Anthony had an average of 2.32 shots per game at Turf Moor in the Championship last season - the highest of any Burnley player.

🟣 Parker’s Men Hoping to Bounce Back

Scott Parker changed his tactical blueprint at Turf Moor last time out, switching to a back-five formation, with the Clarets sitting very deep in their own half. Burnley managed just three shots worth 0.13 xG, with Alisson barely having to touch the ball in the 90 minutes.

However, the approach did almost yield success, and it was a catastrophic error from Hannibal Mejbri in injury-time which gifted the Reds the winner from 12 yards.

Lesley Ugochukwu was also sent off in that game for two bookable offences, which is a blow for the Clarets. Josh Laurent, who featured in the defensive line last time out, is expected to re-claim a starting spot in midfield, as Scott Parker will likely revert to his 4-2-3-1 shape.

Before the international break, Burnley had actually managed to score six goals in their last three games in all competitions. They can be dangerous in the final third, and will look to get back on track at Turf Moor.

🔴 A Rough Patch for the Tricky Trees

Nottingham Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season to secure a Europa League spot, but results so far this term have been disappointing. Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked as manager after his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis broke down, and Ange Postecoglou was drafted in as his replacement.

Forest have lost both games under their new manager in extremely poor circumstances. Last time out, Swansea scored twice in injury-time to secure a late comeback and eliminate Forest from the EFL Cup.

Prior to that, Postecoglou’s men were put to the sword by Arsenal, who racked up 18 shots and five big chances at the Emirates, Forest managed five shots worth just 0.2xG in return.

Postecoglou did rotate his side in midweek, but Forest have shipped nine goals from their last three games, leaking chances at the back. While it seems likely that the new manager will stick with a familiar 4-2-3-1 shape, games are likely to be much more expansive and open than they were under Nuno.

📊 Burnley v Nottingham Forest H2H

Forest took four points off Burnley when these sides faced off back in the 23/24 campaign, with both teams to score landing in each of those two matches.

Prior to that, though, it was the Clarets who had the upper hand, winning four of the previous six head-to-head encounters.
