This all-London clash could be a case of real blood and thunder with ultra-competitive managers and physically strong teams trying to get a win for bragging rights and to solidify themselves as top-half contenders.

Charlton haven't beaten Millwall since 1996.

These recommended Best Bet Builder Bookmakers are worth a look for the weekend's Premier League action.

Charlton Corner Match Bet

The Addicks have won the corner battle in all six of their matches so far. This cannot be a trend which is not by design from Nathan Jones. We know that Charlton are a big threat from set pieces, and it seems like they aim to win corners in some respects to take advantage of that.

By contrast, Millwall have lost the corner count in four of their six matches in all competitions, despite not yet dropping below five corners in a match themselves.

The way that Charlton dropped bombs on Leicester from 13 corners in their last home match is also likely to have an effect here in that the Addicks will potentially look to replicate that.

Lloyd Jones to have 1+ Shots

A part of this selection is tied to the previous one because if Charlton get a decent number of corners, then the odds on Lloyd Jones havign a shot get shorter and shorter.

Jones is the main target from Charlton corners, as his three shots against Watford on the opening weekend support. He also managed shots against Leicester and Bristol City.

He averages 0.98 shots per 90 for Charlton over their last 30 matches, but the key to this bet is Charlton getting the attacking set pieces required to find Jones.

Kayne Ramsay to Commit 1+ Fouls

Ramsay has already been a revelation this season at right back, but he has also upped the number of fouls that he is committing this season.

He has fouled at least once in three of the four Championship matches he has played in, six fouls in total, with five of them coming in the last two matches.

His likely direct opponent, Aidomo Emakhu, has started the last two matches on the left and has drawn three fouls in those two matches. This means he is now averaging 1.7 fouls drawn per 90 over Millwall’s last 30 matches.

Super Sub

Over 3.5 Cards

Millwall’s matches have been very card-heavy so far this season. Every single Millwall match so far this season has covered this bet, a couple of them have seen Millwall cover this line on their own.

This is a South London derby as well, and that can only help in this situation.

Robert Madley has a higher-than-average yellow card rate compared to his peers, currently dishing out four yellow cards per game in the Championship, giving six (three to each team) on the opening weekend, and then four (two to each team) in Ipswich v Southampton.

Massimo Luongo to be Shown a Card

This seems too big a price for a Luongo yellow card.

He has already had two yellow cards this season, and is regularly troubling the referee in terms of his persistent fouling. Luongo has committed eight fouls in four Millwall matches, including four against Sheffield United and three last time out against Wrexham.

His two yellow cards so far this season have been for fouls as well, one of his four against Sheff Utd and also against Newport in the EFL Cup.

With the fairly high card expectancy in this match, the price seems to be a generous one.

Super Sub

Charlton Over 5.5 Corners

I mentioned that Millwall had managed to get at least five corners in every match so far this season, so the fact that they have lost the corner count so regularly means that they also concede a lot of corners.

Charlton won 13 corners in their last home match with Leicester, and whilst we have to be careful not to read too much into a single match, the facts that Charlton have won the corner battle in all of their matches, and the fact that Millwall have conceded over 5.5 corners in four of their six matches this season, make this a good bet.

Aidomo Emakhu to have 3+ Shots

This could be a breakout run of form for Aidomo Emakhu.

Having long been around the fringe of the first team squad, the teenager has now taken advantage of Femi Azeez's injury and made a real impact. He has started the last two matches and shot three times on both occasions.

His only other start this season was in the EFL Cup against Newport. On that occasion, he shot six times with four of them on target.

His price to repeat exactly what he has already done on every start so far this season seems a big enough one to me.

📈 Charlton v Millwall Form & Tactics

Nathan Jones has proven himself to be quite adaptable when it comes to tactical setups over his management career, but he has settled into a 4-2-3-1 shape at the beginning of this season with Charlton. This allows them to be very solid centrally, with Conor Coventry and Greg Docherty sitting in front of the defence when out of possession, whilst the wide forwards are tasked with getting back into shape to help their full backs defend the wide channels as quickly as possible.

Their central forward, whether that be Miles Leaburn or Charlie Kelman, is big enough but also mobile enough to provide a target, but run the channels as well.

The pre-international window defeat to QPR put something of a dampener on the Addicks’ start, but overall, Jones can be satisfied with performance levels, if not overly enamoured with the points return of four from four matches.

The trick that Alex Neil is trying to perform for Millwall is how to balance playing two out-and-out centre forwards in Josh Coburn and Mihailo Ivanovic.

They have played together in the last three league matches, and their physical abilities make them a really tough match for defences that have got used to playing against a single forward. Often, it will be Coburn who drops deeper to equate the numbers in midfield, but athleticism and work rate in the pairing in central midfield are vital.

The Lions have won both away matches and have not yet won at The Den, which is fairly unusual for Millwall, but they have been highly competitive and quite enterprising in all four matches as well. They currently sit 4th in the xG-based league table, which indicates that they are doing well in terms of performance.
