Jubilee Express E/W @ 6.00

JUBILEE EXPRESS is 6lb higher than when an excellent runner-up in this prestigious handicap chase last season. That fine effort came after a lengthy absence, but this time around he arrives after two runs to hopefully peak here.

He effortlessly won the Welsh Grand National Trial Handicap Chase over a shorter trip earlier this month. That success came on likely similar good-to-soft ground, with a dry few days expected in Wales, and he remains an unexposed chaser.

There is no doubt that this has been the main target for the season for his Welsh trainer and owner, and he is capable of leading all the way.

O'Connell E/W @ 9.00

O’CONNELL has been one of the success stories for the up-and-coming trainer team of Sue Smith and Joel Parkinson. They have at least three very unexposed chasers in their hands, including one who scored for us last week.

O’Connell improved on a sound reappearance third, with a determined Sandown win over an extended 3m4f distance. That was his fifth career victory and he could have more to come, raised in journey. He should stay the trip and be running-on when others are weakening, which could result in a placing.

COLLECTORS ITEM ran an honest second to Jubilee Express last-time-out. He isn’t weighted to reverse the form, but is one who could certainly challenge for a minor placing, at good each-way odds.

That fine effort proved he handles the unique circuit and the likelihood of a sound surface would enhance his claims. His trainer has also just started to turn the corner, with three winners in the last week.
