Coventry currently sit top of the league, scoring a whopping 31 goals in just eleven games this season, while only conceding a miserly 8 goals.

It’s been another turbulent start to the season for Watford, and in vintage fashion, the manager merry-go-round continues, I guess old habits die hard. Paulo Pezollano was sacked after an underwhelming start to the campaign, he was replaced by Javi Gracia, marking his second spell at the club. The Hornets currently sit 12th in the league, amassing 15 points from eleven games.

Coventry to Win

A very logical play here, Coventry have been imperious on home soil this season, acquiring eleven points from a possible fifteen. Admittedly, they did drop points against Hull and Norwich, but given the xG stats, these were games they were very unlucky not to win. The home side have now managed 16 goals in their last five games, conceding just 1. The extent of such dominance can’t be underestimated at this level, especially accounting for the fiercely competitive nature of the Championship.

It’s been a pretty sorry story for Watford on the road, they remain winless, gaining just two points all season, scoring three and conceding six in the process. Only conceding six goals may offer them a glimmer of hope here. Their away form is statistically the worst in the Championship. A huge effort will be needed in order to come away with anything on Saturday afternoon.

Over 2.5 Goals

With the remarkable 31 goals Coventry have scored this season, it’s no surprise they’ve been finding the target with regularity. The incredible thing has been their efficiency from shots on target. Around 47% of their shots on target are finding the net.

Coventry have won seven matches in the league this season, six of those matches finished with over 2.5 goals, the only anomaly was against Blackburn last week where they won 2-0. To Blackburn’s credit, they probably deserved more from the game.

The hosts have managed to score an impressive 16 goals in their last five games, they’ve become absolutely imperious and relentless in front of goal.

With 39 goals scored across Coventry’s first eleven games, we are seeing an average of 3.54 goals scored per game, this average bodes well for the selection.

📈 Coventry v Watford Form & Stats

Coventry are in superb form at the moment, dismantling teams with ease, but equally being solid defensively. They’ve gone unbeaten all season, their only real lean spell was a sequence of games where they had three consecutive draws.

The underlying data supports Coventry’s current position in the league, the xG data ranks them 1st in the division, and that’s in spite of the fact they have overperformed their xGF by some distance.

Statistically at least, this is Coventry’s best spell in the season. Their defensive metrics are really strong on home soil, Blackburn are the only team who’ve created a good number of chances at the Coventry Building Society Stadium this season.

Consistency has been a real hurdle for Watford this season, momentum is obviously vital in football; Watford haven’t managed to win consecutive games all season. They did see a small uptick in form recently after gaining seven points in three games, but that positive run was curtailed after confidence stricken Sheffield United beat them at Bramall Lane. However, they did manage to beat West Brom at Vicarage Road on Wednesday evening.

The data suggests Watford have been getting unlucky across the course of the season, this will offer some optimism for new manager Javi Gracia. Opta Analyst xG data currently has them sitting 8th in the league, while their actual position is 12th.
