Wolves head to Selhurst Park where Roy Hodgson will be hoping for more success for Crystal Palace. The Eagles won in midweek in the cup against Plymouth Argyle, with Jean-Philippe Mateta bagging himself a hat-trick.
Wolves also won in midweek against Blackpool, bagging five goals in the process. Against Everton last week they had just two shots on target and no corners, yet came away with a 1-0 win courtesy of an 87th-minute goal.

Hodgson more adventurous in his old age
During Hodgson’s stint at the end of last season Palace were unbeaten at home. The Eagles have been more attacking under Hodgson, averaging over 15 shots per game, five higher than their previous average under former boss Patrick Vieira. They have also been winning a lot more corners in the process.
Crystal Palace team news
Palace look to be shaping up the exact same as last week, with no changes. Their go-to formation this season has been the ever-popular 4-2-3-1, with emphasis on Odsonne Edouard as the striker, and Eberechi Eze as the 10.
The only usual starting player who looks to be absent is Michael Olise, currently suffering from an ongoing hamstring injury.
Mixed results for Wolves to start the season
Despite losing their first two games, against Man United and Brighton, Wolves had a decent amount of chances in each. Against United, Wolves saw more expected goals (2.21 xG), more shots on target (six), and more shots (21) than the Red Devils, despite playing away from home. The story was similar against Brighton, with Wolves posting 1.93 xG, five shots on target and 14 shots.
Although convincing in those two games, Wolves struggled last week when visiting Everton. The hosts dominated the game in all areas of the pitch. Wolves only managed two shots on target and had no corners, whilst the hosts had seven shots on target and corners respectively.
Wolves team news
Wolves look to be starting slightly differently to how they did against Everton, with Hwang Hee-Chan picking up a hamstring injury last week and being forced to come off at half time. Matheus Nunes looks to be taking his place on the left flank.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are also rumoured to be playing the classic 4-4-2 formation, although this normally sees one of the strikers (Matheus Cunha) play slightly deeper than the other (Fabio Silva). Hwang Hee-Chan is their only reported injury at the time of writing.

ABC’s 3/1 Crystal Palace v Wolves bet builder
⚽ Eberechi Eze to have 1+ shots on target
📈
Odds: 1.33
Eze has been in strong shooting form so far this season, and is due some goals. He has averaged 3.84 shots this season, hitting just under one on target per match – taking an astounding eight shots against Sheffield United in the season opener.
Across the entirety of last season, Eze outperformed all his teammates in terms of shots, averaging 2.39 per game. On top of this, Eze is also on penalties and most direct free kicks, only boosting the chances of a shot on target. Against a Wolves side who have looked shaky so far this season, Eze should do well.

🚩 Crystal Palace over 3.5 corners
📈
Odds: 1.17
As much as Palace like to take corners, Wolves seem to enjoy conceding them. So far this season, Wolves’ opponents have taken an average of six corners. This stat rises to 7.5 corners when you look at the games where Wolves have been playing away from home, as they are on Sunday.

🛑 Jordan Ayew to commit 2+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.91
Palace committed the third-most fouls of any team last season, with Jordan Ayew being one of the standout masters of the dark arts. Ayew commits a career average of 1.69 fouls per 90, with this figure rising to 2.67 fouls so far this season. This selection, at evens, has landed in each of Palace’s league games in 2023/24.
Last season against Wolves, Ayew only started in one of their matches, but committed three fouls. This was while playing in a more central role as a striker. Since then Ayew has been forced out wide onto the right flank, and has been getting even more stuck in – both drawing and committing more fouls.

🛑 Nelson Semedo to commit 1+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.17
Nelson Semedo looks to be nailed on as Wolves’ right-back ahead of their fixture against Palace, having played the full 90 minutes in each of their Premier League games so far. Across his opening three appearances this season, Semedo has not been scared of a challenge, committing four fouls and picking up a yellow card last weekend against Everton.
He will be defending against Jeffrey Schlupp, who won an average of 1.17 fouls last season. Around half of these games, Schlupp was playing deeper, but when purely focussing on those where he would play left wing, as predicted against Wolves, he wins over two fouls per game.

⚽ Eberechi Eze to score anytime
📈
Odds: 3.30
Eze is a threat from a variety of areas of the pitch due to his ball carrying ability, and can step up as comfortably Palace’s main attacking in Olise’s absence and since Wilfried Zaha’s departure.
He has found the net against Wolves previously in his career and the odds look generous on him to do so again in this encounter.

🚩 Crystal Palace over 3.5 corners
📈
Odds: 1.17
Wolves remain far stronger in defence than going forwards and that has seen them be content to sit back and soak up pressure in recent seasons. An approach that can see the opposition yield a large number of corners due to the territory and time they spend in the final third as a result.

🛑 Jordan Ayew to commit 2+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.91
Ayew has been so hardworking for Palace with and without the ball over the years, and that work rate will only intensify under Hodgson. The Senegalese winger does crucial defensive work for his team and could sin more often in this match if Palace are holding onto a lead.

🛑 Nelson Semedo to commit 1+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.17
Palace love to get down the flanks and will look to exploit the space behind the Wolves backline. If it was not for Semedo’s pace he would be a liability at full back and we only need the Portuguese to get carried away once for this leg of the bet builder to land.
