An East Midlands rivalry kicks things off in the Championship as Leicester head to Derby on Saturday lunchtime.

The Foxes make the trip to Pride Park after back-to-back defeats against Southampton and Sheffield Utd, where they conceded three in each game. Pressure is building on Marti Cifuentes with his side in 16th, plus a potential points deduction looms following their alleged breaches of Profit and Sustainability rules.

Derby head into this game in 11th after six wins in their last eight. However, it could be so much better for John Eustace’s side.

The Rams were 2-0 up at home to Watford before surrendering the lead in a 3-2 defeat. And last weekend followed a similar pattern, where they failed to capitalise on the lead, going down 2-1 at promotion-chasing Middlesbrough.

📈 Derby v Leicester Form & Stats

Derby have the advantage of playing early this weekend and victory could see them climb into the play-off places. That’s despite losing two of their last three, which put pay to their five-game winning run.

The Rams can be quite direct at times, however, that might have to change slightly in the absence of Carlton Morris.

Joe Ward and Callum Elder offer plenty of width in this system to get crosses into the box, while they have the Championship experience and nous of Chilean international Ben Brereton Diaz.

One man who has caught the eye in recent games is Bobby Clark. The loanee from Red Bull Salzburg has bundles of energy and offers plenty of industry and hard work in the middle of the park.

Last month’s three-game unbeaten run saw a few start to think Leicester were starting to turn a corner. But old habits die hard.

A 3-0 defeat at Southampton, with Olabade Aluko sent off, quickly followed by their 3-2 loss at home to Sheffield Utd, has seen the pressure continue to build on Marti Cifuentes.

Falling to defeat at Pride Park could well see the end of his short reign as Foxes boss, especially with the expectations set after their relegation from the Premier League.

The Cifuentes way has been seen at the King Power this season, with how they look to dominate possession. But in the Championship, that can pose its own problems, as witnessed with a goal they conceded last weekend. The pressure will come and it's seen some of his own players crumble in possession.

📔 Derby v Leicester Formation & Team News

Derby started the season with a back four, however, since the return to fitness of key defenders, John Eustace has reverted to his more familiar back three.

There is some positive injury news for the hosts with Rhian Brewster and Danny Batth inching closer to involvement in the matchday squad.

However, they’ll be without the talismanic figure of Carlton Morris, leaving Patrick Agyemang to lead the line. Joining Morris on the treatment table are Lewis Travis and David Ozoh, but that pair should be heading back to fitness later in the month.

Marti Cifuentes is hopeful first-choice goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk is able to return. He’s missed the last few weeks with a groin injury, and last weekend’s game with Sheffield Utd came too soon.

Defender Caleb Okoli remains on the sidelines and is likely to be out until the new year, while Luke Thomas, who returned from suspension last weekend, is likely to keep hold of his left back berth.

Cifuentes will likely keep faith in his 4-2-3-1 that has seen a mix of holding midfield partnerships. Jordan James dropped into the deeper role last Saturday, allowing Jordan Ayew to return to the starting XI in a more advanced position.

Abdul Fatawu, Patson Daka and Stephy Mavididi are the likely three forward-thinking options as the Foxes aim to turn things around.
