Liverpool welcome Leeds with Arne Slot steadying the ship at Liverpool in recent weeks which has seen the Reds win each of their last four matches across all competitions.

Leeds managed to hold Liverpool to a 3-3 draw just a few weeks ago, and have been on a decent run themselves of late with Leeds avoiding defeat in each of their last five Premier League matches.

📈 Liverpool v Leeds Form & Tactics

Liverpool looked a little shaky in their second half display against Wolves, but you can forgive them for switching off against a side that hasn’t won a game in the Premier League this season - especially since the remainder of Liverpool’s displays over recent weeks have been positive.

The Reds are still quite a way off from the levels they set in the Premier League last season as they roared to the title, but Slot is slowly building their confidence again and four consecutive wins, including big victories against Tottenham and Inter on the road, will take a lot of pressure away from his players.

A victory here would take Liverpool to within touching distance of Aston Villa, and all of a sudden the ‘crisis’ that surrounded Anfield becomes no more than a blip as Liverpool look to prime themselves for a strong second half of the season. I do think Liverpool will be more of a threat in the Champions League this term, with Slot alluding to that focus at the start of the season.

Leeds have given their survival hopes a real boost in recent weeks with Daniel Farke’s side avoiding defeat in each of their last five matches in the Premier League. Three of these games have been at home, which is pretty notable and Leeds tend to struggle a lot more on the road with just one win from their nine outings.

That victory was against Wolves who offered no resistance in that encounter as Leeds ran out 3-1 winners. It’s hard to see how Leeds cope with the quality that Liverpool have in the final third here, only Burnley (24) and Bournemouth (27) have conceded more goals on the road than Leeds in the Premier League this season (20).

📔 Liverpool v Leeds Formation & Team News

Arne Slot is constantly tinkering with his side so we could get a surprising shape of lineup from the Liverpool boss here as the Reds are still far from having a best eleven. Liverpool are also missing key players at the moment which factors into Slot making these tweaks. Salah is away at AFCON, while Isak remains sidelined for the next few months after suffering an injury against Tottenham.

Liverpool do have the players to fill in for Isak and Salah, with Chiesa, Wirtz, Ekitike and Gakpo all fit and available - but it certainly affects the overall balance of the Liverpool squad. Liverpool will line up in a 4-2-3-1, they’ve been packing the midfield in recent games which has made the football they play a little tedious, but Slot doesn’t really have many other options at the moment with Liverpool still struggling with long balls and quick transitions.

Daniel Farke deserves serious credit for the job he’s done over recent weeks at Leeds. He was rumoured to be sacked before this run of form, which has seen Leeds avoid defeat across their last five Premier League matches - including clashes with Liverpool and Chelsea. It should be noted that Leeds’ games against the Reds and the Blues were both at home, with Leeds being a completely different side when away from Elland Road.

Leeds line up in a 3-5-2 which is effective as it allows them to be direct and have bodies in midfield. I do think that opposition sides will start working out this system, as Farke has had the element of surprise over recent weeks since making his switch at half time in Leeds’ 3-2 defeat to Manchester City.

Leeds suffered a big blow against Sunderland last time out as Joe Rodon went off injured and is expected to be out for a few weeks. He was key to Leeds’ defensive game plan, but also a massive threat from corners with Rodon pitching in twice from set pieces for Leeds already this season.

📊 Liverpool v Leeds Key Stats

  • Liverpool have won their last four matches across all competitions.

  • Only Burnley (24) and Bournemouth (27) have conceded more goals on the road than Leeds (20) in the Premier League this season.

  • Liverpool are averaging 61.3% of the ball per game in the Premier League this season - more than any other side.

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored in each of his last six Premier League matches.
