Until Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney conjures a system that provides them with more defensive stability there seems little reason for us to deviate from a winning formula,

When taking on Plymouth we’ve pinpointed threat that’s in operation down Argyle’s right hand side. Since Joe Edwards suffered injury the right side of Plymouth’s defence has been severely weakened and it gets targeted by opposition teams match after match. Rooney has threw different players at the problem. Matthew Sorinola has a tendency to get caught too high up the pitch. Viktor Palsson is immobile and passive in his defending. Both Sorinola and Palsson have been at fault for goals conceded in previous.

Plymouth are giving up both loads of shots and high xG figures at the moment. Shots faced in their last 10 matches read 5-23-11-14-23-14-19-11-18-22. xGA in those ten matches read 0.81-2.99-1.49-2.17-2.88-1.04-1.83-1.63-3.08-3.16. They’ve conceded 38 goals in the Championship this season, 5 more than any other team.

It would be nice to find another right footed, inverting left winger for an Oxford selection, but that’s not easy. That position on the pitch is up for grabs with players returning from injury and the stating XI changing often. All of Przemyslaw Placheta, Matt Phillips, Owen Dale and Kyle Edwards are possibilities for that role but none are guaranteed starters. Nailing a selection has become about finding a certain starter and looking for Oxford’s most shot happy attacking midfielder. Step forward TYLER GOODRHAM.

Goodrham usually plays for a central position but he has the licence to drift and pick up pockets of space. It would be fair to call Goodrham a scorer of spectacular goals rather than a spectacular goal scorer but he is Oxford’s frequent shooter and has managed 4 goals this season from an xG of 2.6. Plymouth give up plenty and Goodrham isn’t shy of shooting, he can further add to Plymouth’s wors here.

Looking for an away goalscorer against a team that have conceded just 15 goals in 17 Championship matches and 7 goals in 9 home matches has a somewhat foolish feel to it at first look. But this is a situational play.

Millwall aren’t going to have their usual look to them for this fixture. Not only is Jake Cooper injured and expected missing until February but Cooper’s regular centre back partner, Japhet Tanganga is also out, suspended after picking up 5 yellow cards this season.

The evidence of how big a miss Tanganga will be is already available to us. Tanganga was missing from Millwall’s first 2 matches of the season. They conceded 7 goals – 3 to Watford and 4 to Bristol City. Tanganga has played every minute of 15 matches since, Millwall have conceded just 8 goals.

Bassette is the Coventry player we want to take Millwall on with. Summer signing Bassette was recently called into the full Belgium squad and has made his way into the Coventry first team – he started up front in Frank Lampard’s first game as manager last weekend.

Bassette has scored 1 Coventry goal so far this season. His shot numbers read 1-0-2-2-1-0-1-1-3-0-1. Nothing exciting at first glance but those 12 shots have come in 220 minutes of Coventry football, an average of a shot every 18.33 minutes.
