Christie commits 1.99 fouls per 90 in the Premier League, and has been running above that average lately, having fouled twice or more in 6 of his last 7 league games. He did not commit a foul in the 5-0 thrashing of Forest last weekend, but even with that game included, Christie has still fouled 9 times in his last 3 starts.

He fouled 5 times against Chelsea and 4 times against Newcastle, both good sides who draw plenty of fouls in the midfield area, just like Liverpool.

Christie earned himself a card in both of those games, and has now been booked in 3 of his last 5 league starts. He was also booked when these two sides met earlier this season, picking up his card in the 1st minute of the game.

He will be up against Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, who draws 1.44 fouls per 90 in the league. Mac Allister won 2 fouls in the reverse fixture. The Argentina international comes into this game having won 5 fouls in his last 2 league starts, while winning at least 1 foul in 8 straight Liverpool games.

We’re expecting a real battle at Portman Road as Ipswich, just one point off of Leicester in 17th, face a Southampton side who already looked doomed, with just 6 points from their first 23 games.

Mateus Fernandes offers great value to be carded in this one, with the Saints’ midfielder picking up 7 cards in the Premier League already this season, including 3 bookings in his last 5 league starts. The Portuguese midfielder is a frequent fouler, averaging 1.58 fouls per 90, the 2nd-most of any player we expect to start in this clash.

Fernandes was heavily involved in duels the last time these two sides met, fouling twice and being fouled a further 3 times in a 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s in September. He has started 19 league games this season, committing a foul in 17, while fouling 7 times in his last 4 league starts.

He will be up against an Ipswich defensive midfield duo of Sam Morsy and Kalvin Phillips, who draw 0.90 and 1.77 fouls per 90 respectively. Phillips did not feature in the first meeting between these two sides, but he has been fouled in 10 of his 11 league starts for the Tractor Boys, winning multiple fouls in 5 of those 10 games.

With 8 cards dished out in the last meeting between these two sides, and the stakes only having grown in the months since then, this looks like a smart place to look in the card markets, and Fernandes is the pick that offers the best value.
