Everton have shown some real improvement under Sean Dyche this season, especially away from home, and their league position certainly does not reflect their quality of football so far. Without their 10-point deduction the Toffees would be sitting in 10th, ahead of Sunday’s visitors.

A hard fought 1-0 victory last weekend away at Nottingham Forest and a superb performance against Newcastle on Thursday certainly shows their character and ability to do the dirty work. The Toffees have had decent success in this fixture over recent meetings, collecting 5 points from 12.

Chelsea will be wanting to start fresh this weekend as they kickstart a very promising set of fixtures running beyond the festive period, and will be favourites to rack up the points in most of those games. 

This trip to Goodison will certainly be challenging considering the incredible atmosphere against Man Utd and Newcastle and considering recent results in this fixture, but the Blues will be hopeful to take 3 points back to London considering their love for goals at the moment.

A fixture that’s been evenly contested over the last couple of seasons, with two draws and a win each in the last four meetings, this match is usually a close affair. A superb victory for Everton midweek will have Goodison Park feeling even more hostile for a Chelsea side who have struggled away from home, with their last victory on the road coming at the start of October. Having collected 13 points from 18, Everton are looking like a genuine threat that can give anyone a great matchup and a real battle for the points. Chelsea will really have to dust themselves off from the performance against Man Utd if they’re to get a result here. Chelsea's defence have had great struggles over the last few weeks, conceding 13 in their last five Premier League games, and with Everton scoring three against the third-best defence in the league in midweek, there'll certainly be attacking confidence for the Toffees. A strange fixture in recent years gets even stranger considering seven of the eight  goals scored in the last four meetings in this matchup have come in the second half. A weird omen for sure but with Everton scoring all three of their goals midweek in the second half, perhaps history will repeat itself here.

🎯 Shooting stats: Can McNeil continue his form?

Dwight McNeil showed great promise in last weekend’s victory against Nottingham Forest and put on a brilliant performance against Newcastle midweek, showing great intent to get forward and attack open spaces, a missing piece from this Everton side so far this year. McNeil registered four shots on goal with one of them hitting the target against Forest, meaning he has hit the target at least once in five of his last six Premier League games. The Englishman is averaging 2.34 shots on goal per game this season, and against a leaky Chelsea defence, he’s likely to get some more chances at goal this weekend. Chelsea’s trigger-happy striker Nicolas Jackson continues his love for shooting practice as he registered another two attempts at goal against Man Utd, meaning he has 15 shots across his last six Premier League matches, with seven hitting the target. Jackson boasts an impressive 3.00 shots on goal per 90, with a respectable 1.33 of those hitting the target, and if the Chelsea midfield start to get the grip of play into their hands again, Jackson’s shoot-on-sight policy should see him to replicate his high output at Goodison.

Chelsea come into this game with the worst disciplinary record in the Premier League picking up an impressive 51 yellows and two reds from their 15 outings this season. They face an Everton side that have picked up only 28 yellows, from committing only 18 less total fouls. The Blues have had a whopping 19 offenders in the booking department with serial offenders being Nicolas Jackson, Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez all with seven, five, and four bookings respectively. Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye draw in 2.25 and 1.79 fouls per 90, the Chelsea midfield will certainly have their hands full. Caicedo is a solid card candidate as outlined previously but Enzo Fernandez is also a good shout. The Argentine averages 1.23 fouls per 90 and has two fouls in three of his last five Premier League matches - a hotly tested midfield battle could be his undoing here. Having somehow picked up zero bookings from 12 fouls against Man Utd, including Enzo Fernandez’s foot stamp in the box, Chelsea saw at least 5 bookings in 4 consecutive Premier League games. Averaging 3.40 yellows per 90 as compared to Everton’s 2.00, a card match bet shows good value. In this fixture last season, Chelsea saw five bookings versus Everton’s three, and with this season’s trends, it’ll be hard to look past Chelsea winning another card, match bet.
