After a long-awaited two years, the Devon Derby is back courtesy of Plymouth’s relegation back to the third tier. It’s been a struggle for both sides this season. Plymouth have been lingering around the relegation zone for most of the season. A home defeat to AFC Wimbledon at the weekend was a sucker punch after previously avoiding defeat in four of their last five league games.

Exeter started the season with a mixed bag of results, but have recently slumped with a poor run of form where they lost five matches in their last seven. Both will be looking to ease any relegation fears and make a climb up the table.

Plymouth Double Chance

After avoiding defeat in four of their last six league games, including notable wins against Stockport, Luton, and Cardiff, things are looking bright for the pilgrims. Despite losing against AFC Wimbledon at the weekend, they will probably consider themselves slightly unlucky to have lost.

Plymouth may have only recorded 0.69 xG themselves, but the visitors managed to get past them with some clinical finishing after only posting 0.47 xG. Admittedly, though, Wimbledon have now gone unbeaten in their last six league games, it was never going to be an easy fixture for Plymouth.

Exeter have managed just two wins on home soil this season, those victories coming against 23rd placed Blackpool and 24th placed Peterborough, not exactly major scalps. Goals have been a major issue for Exeter recently. A return of three goals in their last eight games (all comps) makes for really poor reading; it doesn’t instill me with a massive amount of confidence ahead of this one.

Over 3.5 Exeter Corners

Exeter have faced some tough opposition in home matches, but they are often competitive when it comes to territory and showing an ability to impose themselves upon the game. They have averaged 5.4 corners in home games, failing to get over 3.5 corners on just one solitary occasion against Mansfield.

Given the nature of the fixture and with so much on the line, it’s quite unlikely Plymouth will dominate the game from start to finish. In my experience, the biggest risk attached to corner bets is seeing the team you’ve backed take an early lead, and then sitting on that lead with no effort to be positive in their approach.

I always like to pair logical scenarios together in bet builders, and Plymouth double chance should bolster the chances of Exeter securing four plus corners, especially if they are chasing the game in the event of Plymouth scoring the first goal.

📈 Exeter v Plymouth Form & Stats

Despite a recent history of performing well in the third tier, it’s been a really frustrating start to the 2025/26 campaign for Plymouth after being relegated from the Championship. Things were looking extremely bleak for Plymouth when they lost their first four league games this season, but an upturn in results has seen them manage 13 points from their last eight games. Overall, the signs are looking much brighter. However, they still sit 21st in the league at present

Exeter might be joint favourites for relegation, but they continue to punch above their weight at this level, remaining competitive against the financial weight of much bigger clubs. While they might be just above the relegation zone on goal difference, recent form will be a real source of concern as they take on the Pilgrims.

It’s now just one win in their last seven outings, a slender 1-0 win away to Lincoln, where they were ultimately a little fortunate to secure the three points. As previously touched upon, scoring goals is becoming a real issue for them presently.
