Fabio Wardley to be Knocked Down in Rounds 1-6 & to Win in Rounds 7-12

Whilst Fabio Wardley has never been knocked down in a 21-fight career, he is yet to face a puncher as fearsome and explosive as ‘Triple D’, who is sure to look to end the fight early and apply front-footed pressure from the get-go.

Dubois’ stamina and mental fortitude has often been brought into question, with a record of 5-3 in bouts that have gone beyond the fourth round; deemed as a fighter that can fold under pressure when things aren’t going his way.

Against Wardley, he is up against the polar opposite; a confident, in-form fighter that is in possession of the biggest heart in the division, looking to prove that he is a worthy world champion and continue his Cinderella story.

The impact of Dubois’ July defeat to Oleksandr Usyk should not be overlooked here and even if his superior world level experience is telling in the opening rounds - he will need to put Wardley to sleep to put him away.

I expect that Dubois will start the stronger of the two, but that Wardley will make it three late stoppage wins in a row by halting Dubois after dragging him into deep waters down the stretch.

On Saturday night, Fabio Wardley attempts a first defence of his WBO heavyweight world title, in a difficult but voluntary test against former IBF ruler, Daniel Dubois.

In a showdown between what is arguably the United Kingdom’s two biggest punchers, who boast a combined two decision wins in their respective careers, fans are split as to who will come out on top - as are the bookmakers.

Here, I took a look at some of the eye-catching selections for both the main event and the undercard, ahead of one of 2026’s most intriguing domestic clashes.

Fixtures for:Saturday 9th May

David Morrell v Zak Chelli

Wardley v Dubois

21:00

David Morrell to Win by KO/TKO @ 1.30

A late notice addition, light-heavyweight world title hopeful David Morrell had been preparing for a crucial challenge for Callum Smith’s WBO interim title, until the Liverpudlian pulled out due to an injury.

Instead, the Cuban takes on former British super-middleweight champion Zak Chelli, who got his hands on the English light-heavyweight crown last June. Still, with inexperience at the weight, the jump up to Morrell’s level is a monumental one that should see Chelli overmatched and outgunned.

Here, I see Morrell registering an authoritative win, as he eyes up world honours in what will likely be a rescheduled match-up with Smith later this year.

Liam Cameron v Brad Rea

Wardley v Dubois

18:50

Fight to Go the Distance @ 1.57

Liam Cameron is undeniably one of the toughest and most underrated domestic light-heavyweights around, having lost a highly controversial split-decision to Lyndon Arthur and being robbed of a win in his first fight against Ben Whittaker.

However, after losing in his rematch with Whittaker, Cameron bounced back to defeat Troy Jones in November, whilst Brad Rea lost out to Arthur on that same card.

Cameron and Rea collide here, with neither man perceived to be a power puncher and just one knockout defeat in a combined nine defeats between them.

This one can be expected to be a rough and rugged affair that heads to the scorecards, with 1.57 looking to be extremely good value for a decision play.

Khaleel Majid v Gavin Gwynne

Wardley v Dubois

18:00

Gavin Gwynne to Win @ 1.67

Many, including myself, wrote 36-year-old Gwynne off ahead of his rematch with young Cameron Vuong back in November, but the Welshman was once again denied a win, coming away with a draw on the scorecards.

Here, he fights Bolton’s well-supported Khaleel Majid, in a scrap for the WBA International super-lightweight title and enters as the favourite, with Majid having not faced a competitor as experienced as Gwynne before, off the back of an underwhelming performance against David Ryan last time out.

I expect the crafty former British champion to punish a similar Majid display and hand his 28-year-old dance partner a first career defeat, in what looks to be an arduous ‘make or break’ assignment for Majid, that may prove costly.
