Hearts and Hibernian will face off in a hotly anticipated Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle on Tuesday night in the Scottish Premiership.
Derek McInnes’ side will be eager to return to winning ways after suffering a 1-0 defeat away at St Mirren last time out.
That loss, coupled with Rangers’ 5-1 thrashing of Kilmarnock, has seen Hearts’ lead at the top of the table trimmed to just three points.
Hibernian, meanwhile, will aim to build on last week’s dramatic 3-2 win over Dundee United, a victory that kept them 5th in the standings.

📈 Hearts v Hibernian Form & Stats
Hearts suffered just their third Scottish Premiership defeat of the season last Tuesday night when falling to a late 1-0 defeat away to St Mirren. Rangers made the most of that slip-up 24 hours later to close the gap at the top to just three points, while Celtic are still six adrift, though they do have a game in hand.
It was ill-discipline that cost Hearts last week, as they had a player sent off for the third time in their last five Scottish Premiership matches. Interestingly, in the two games during that stretch when Hearts avoided a red card, the opposition had a man dismissed in each match.
Hearts’ 1-0 loss to St Mirren last week was only the third time Derek McInnes’ side have failed to score this season. Despite that blank, Hearts remain the division's top scorers with 47 goals across their 25 matches.
Hibernian snapped a four-game winless run by claiming a thrilling 3-2 win over Dundee United last Wednesday night. David Gray’s side looked down and out in the closing stages, but two late strikes gave the capital club a morale-boosting victory and kept them 5th in the table, four points behind Motherwell in 4th.
The Hibees have been one of the draw specialists in this season’s Scottish Premiership, with nine of their 25 matches ending all square.
Both teams have scored in six of Hibernian’s previous 8 Scottish Premiership matches, including a 3-2 win against Hearts at the tail end of 2025.
Hibernian’s matches have been relatively corner-heavy this season, with their top-flight fixtures generating an average of 10.40 flag kicks per game.
While Hibs are averaging 1.80 cards per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, they have picked up two or more bookings in each of their last five matches.
📔 Hearts v Hibernian Formation & Team News
For the most part this season, Derek McInnes has relied on a 4-2-3-1 setup, a formation he is likely to use again on Tuesday night for this all-capital clash.
The Hearts boss will be forced to make at least one change to his starting XI, with Craig Halkett suspended following his red card away at St Mirren last time out.
Also sidelined for the hosts are Calem Nieuwenhof, Cammy Devlin, Finlay Pollock, Lawrence Shankland, and Stephen Kingsley. However, Christian Borchgrevink has returned to training and could be named on the bench.
David Gray is likely to set his Hibernian side up in his favoured 3-4-1-2 formation on Tuesday night.
After coming off the bench to mark his debut with a last-gasp winner against Dundee United, Ante Suto is pushing for a place in the starting XI on Tuesday night.
Hibs are currently dealing with a fairly heavy injury list, with Chris Cadden, Grant Hanley, Jamie McGrath, Josh Mulligan, and Warren O’Hora all at risk of missing out at Tynecastle this midweek.
