While I don’t envisage the latest Edinburgh derby escalating into the kind of high-scoring shootout we saw over the festive period - when Hibernian claimed a 3-2 victory - I'm still expecting to see at least two goals at Tynecastle on Tuesday night. Hearts will be desperate to get their title bid back on track, while Hibs will be equally keen to put another dent into their rivals’ ambitions, and that combination should lend itself to an entertaining capital clash.

Moreover, Derek McInnes’ team are the Scottish Premiership’s leading scorers this season, and their numbers strongly support siding with over 1.5 goals. In fact, 19 of Hearts’ 25 league matches have produced a minimum of two strikes, including 10 of their 12 top-flight fixtures at Tynecastle. The most recent of those home games was an action-packed 2-2 draw with Celtic.

It's been a similar story as far as Hibernian are concerned, as 20 of their 25 Scottish Premiership matches this term have featured at least two goals, with three of their last five top-flight fixtures breaking the over 3.5 barrier - the latest of which was last week’s thrilling 3-2 win over Dundee United.

With both teams expected to play on the front foot during Tuesday night’s showdown at Tynecastle, I would be surprised if we don’t see over 8.5 corners. Both sides rank among the strongest corner performers in the Scottish Premiership this season, with Hearts averaging 5.44 corners per game, while Hibernian are not too far behind on 5.16.

A closer look shows that Hibs' matches are particularly corner-heavy, with the visitors' top-flight fixtures producing an average of almost 10.5 corners per game this season, while Hearts’ fixtures average just over 9.70.

What’s more, both teams like to stretch play down the wings and get crosses into the box, which often creates numerous corner-kick opportunities as a result. That only strengthens the case for over 8.5 corners at Tynecastle on Tuesday night.

Further encouragement comes from the most recent meeting between the pair at the tail end of December, which produced 11 match corners.

Claudio Braga has been a talismanic figure for Hearts this season, and I’m keen to back him to hit the target at least once in this contest. The Hearts forward netted his 10th Scottish Premiership goal of the campaign in a recent 2-2 draw with Celtic at Tynecastle, a match in which he registered three attempts and hit the target with all three.

Moreover, hitting the target has been something Braga has done with consistent regularity this season. In fact, the Portuguese forward is averaging an impressive 1.52 shots on target per game in the Scottish Premiership this term, registering at least one on-target effort in each of his last five appearances.

With top scorer Lawrence Shankland absent, Braga’s increased attacking responsibility makes him an even more appealing option to test the opposition goalkeeper again this midweek.

It is also worth noting that Braga hit the target when Hearts hosted Hibs earlier this season, which adds further weight to backing him to repeat the trick on Tuesday night.

Another player I’m keen to back in the Shots on Target market on Tuesday night is Martin Boyle. Like the aforementioned Braga, Boyle is a player who likes to try his luck in front of goal at every opportunity.

That is underlined by the fact that the Hibs forward is averaging a sizeable 2.58 shots per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, with 1.07 of those hitting the target. What’s more, Boyle comes into this game with nine goals across his 33 appearances this season, with his latest strike helping secure last week’s 3-2 win over Dundee United.

In the game prior to that, Boyle registered an on-target effort against Rangers, as he did when Hibs last travelled to Tynecastle earlier this season. Moreover, Boyle has a habit of troubling Hearts in this fixture, and he could exploit a side weakened by injuries and suspensions on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old’s tendency to take penalties strengthens this selection, while SBK’s Fresh Leg feature ensures the bet remains live even if he comes off.
