BROOMFIELDS CAVE has shown encouraging signs in handicap company – particularly when staying on over an inadequate trip at Taunton – and holds leading credentials to get his head in front under rules, with a handy 7lb weight allowance from today’s conditional jockey. That coupled with the step up in journey, he’s anticipated to go close.
Equinox is clearly the most talented runner in the Grade 1 Dubai Sheema Classic, but without running at this track before, there could be a spot of value taking him on, at the short odds. The Godolphin-owned REBEL’S ROMANCE rates an obvious market rival after winning all five starts over 1m4f last term, including an impressive victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland.
ANOTHER CRICK was supported into favouritism for a handicap chase at Wincanton in January, but failed to deliver in blinkers. He stepped up markedly on that poor showing when a promising second at Ffos Las, despite being hampered by the winner. Now 3lb below his last winning mark, he could back up that improved effort, in a race which should be run to suit.
The highlight of the Dubai fixture is undoubtedly the Grade 1 Dubai World Cup, which concludes the top-class action. A couple of longshots who could be worth siding with are T O KEYNES and EMBLEM ROAD. The former is a three-time Grade 1 winner who ran a pleasing prep for this when narrowly touched off by the reopposing Ushba Tesoro. He could reverse form and surpass his previous exploits with the assistance of Oisin Murphy onboard.
The latter was a shock winner of the Grade 1 Saudi Cup last season and had a valid excuse in a sixth-placed finish this term, rearing as the stalls opened. He closed well to the line from an unpromising position and is likely to appreciate a strong pace, which is likely. Paddy Power are paying four places in this race.
EL HOMBRE holds rock-solid frame appeal in Lingfield’s finale. With a good, low draw to work from, the five-time all-weather scorer is back down to a winning mark. He is also reunited with top claiming rider, Billy Loughnane, which bolsters confidence. He’s expected to sit handy from his good berth and be produced to hold every chance down the home straight.
