They might’ve rode their luck at points in the finals, but the Young Lions made the most of it and came through to triumph once again at the U21 level. Lee Carsley is building something of a dynasty at U21 level.

This match represents the beginning of an attempted history-making three-peat of Euros triumphs. The likes of Harvey Elliott, Elliott Andersom, Jay Stansfield, Tino Livramento, and many others, who made that U21 team so strong in the summer, are now aged out of this cycle, but the likes of Ethan Nwaneri, Archie Gray, and Jack Hinshelwood, who all played their part in the summer, are still part of the group.

England have become a real force in age-group football over the last decade, and all of the players coming into the U21 squad will have been prepared well for this.
