Liverpool welcome Man City on Sunday, as Arne Slot’s side attempt to challenge Man United and Chelsea for a top four finish and subsequent spot in the Champions League.
Man City and Pep Guardiola have a torrid record at Anfield, winning on just one of their last 10 trips to the stadium. They also find themselves six points behind Arsenal in the title race, making this a pivotal fixture for the away side.

📂 Liverpool v Man City Cheat Sheet
📈 Liverpool v Man City Form & Tactics
Liverpool aren’t quite at the level we saw from Arne Slot’s side last season, but there definitely has been an improvement from the collapse they suffered in the first few months of the campaign. Liverpool have lost just one of their last 16 matches across all competitions, with only an away defeat against Bournemouth spoiling what has been a good run for Arne Slot’s side.
Anfield has remained a difficult stadium for sides to visit despite the inconsistency that has plagued the Reds this season - Liverpool have lost just two of their 12 games at Anfield this campaign, winning seven of these matches. Arne Slot will also be eager to put right the 3-0 defeat they suffered at the Etihad earlier on in the campaign, where Jeremy Doku was a standout performer.
Man City faced a real setback last weekend in the title race as they gave up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Tottenham, allowing Arsenal to open up a six point lead at the top of the Premier League. Guardiola’s side have been vulnerable in the second half of games all season, dropping 11 points from situations where they led at half time - only West Ham (13) have dropped more points from first half leads in the Premier League this season.
City’s record at Anfield will also be a concern to Guardiola. City haven’t been too convincing on the road, with just five wins from their 12 away matches. City’s last win at Anfield came back in 2021, a 4-1 triumph over one of the weaker versions of Klopp’s Liverpool side. That victory is the only win that City have managed at Anfield in the Premier League since 2011.
📔 Liverpool v Man City Formation & Team News
Liverpool are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 shape for this clash, with notable issues at right back for the Reds at the moment. Gomez, Bradley and Frimpong are expected to miss out, meaning it is likely that we see Szoboszlai offer cover at right back, as he has done at points throughout the campaign for the Reds this season.
Wirtz and Ekitike are starting to form a bit of understanding, with the former having a particularly tough start to his career in a Liverpool shirt. Wirtz registered a goal and an assist in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Newcastle last weekend, taking his goal contribution tally to six across his 19 starts for the Reds in the Premier League.
Salah has also come into a bit of form, with a goal contribution in each of his last three appearances for Liverpool across all competitions. This isn’t the same version of Salah that we’ve been used to seeing in the last few seasons, but he’s still managing to post respectable numbers, with 12 goal contributions across his 24 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season. Salah also has an excellent record for Liverpool against Man City.
City should continue in their 4-1-4-1 shape, but there are signs that this is far from secure. Ruben Dias appeared on the bench during the week as City booked their spot in the EFL Cup final, and may be pushed to start here given the issues that City have had defensively across recent weeks. The signing of Marc Guehi has helped to offer more security, but there is still a vulnerability from fast breaks, which Liverpool could look to exploit.
Man City are also expected to be without John Stones, Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku and Mateo Kovacic - while Bernardo Silva is a doubt, but still may pass a late fitness test to feature.
