Jurgen Klopp surprised everyone by naming a very strong Liverpool XI in Prague but it paid dividends with Liverpool thrashing the Czech side 5-1. The job looks done and it will allow Klopp to freshen his side ahead of a much bigger FA Cup clash vs Man United at the weekend.
The Reds starting lineup is going to be difficult to predict at Anfield but one thing we do know from recent weeks is that the Liverpool young guns and backup players are of a sufficient caliber to challenge everyone.
With a 5-1 deficit to overturn it’s difficult to know Sparta Prague’s mentality. They are all but out of the competition but will they just be looking at damage limitation here or go down swinging? Despite the tie looking done and dusted then there could still be some betting opportunities to get stuck into.
Sparta have generally been no mugs in Europe for a while and they just happened to get outclassed by a super-clinical Liverpool in Prague last week. They have players in their ranks who must be given respect.

🥅 Goals stats: State of the tie should lead to an open game
With Sparta Prague 5-1 down they could either just accept their fate or try to fight for some pride. This probably won’t be a tight game because Sparta must go for it and the Liverpool XI will be keen to catch the eye.
This competition has been a great learning experience for Klopp’s kids and it’s clear to see that everyone has been motivated to stake a claim in the first choice XI. This is an entertainment business and at home Liverpool will want to put on a show. Over 2.5 goals is priced at 1.36 which looks fair in this situation. There should be at least three goals scored considering the match situation.
In addition, taking a goal to be scored in both halves looks quite safe. The first half should be action packed with both teams going for it hard and whilst everyone is fresh then it might even be the highest scoring period. But after the interval things should stay open with Sparta Prague needing to show something.
There’s a chance that the last 10 or 20 mins could be quiet but before then plenty of goalscoring damage should have been done. Each half in the first leg contained exactly three goals and it’s not asking for too much for only one goal in each half to be netted. It should logically happen on multiple occasions and looks like a solid bet builder addition.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 2.5 goals @ 1.36
⚽ Goal scored in both halves @ 1.36
🎯 Shooting stats: Both keepers could be tested again
An astonishing 17 shots were on target in the first leg and there’s no reason to suggest that anything will change too much at Anfield. With expectations that it will be an open game with Sparta Prague having to go for it then there should be several opportunities for the players to hit the target. Liverpool racked up 10 shots on target in Prague so taking them just to have 7 or more in the home leg isn’t asking for much.
The Reds’ starting XI is difficult to predict and even when we know the lineup then actual minutes on the field could be limited for some players. So it’s best to target the team total number instead and as a collective unit Liverpool should have plenty of success. Liverpool average 6.80 shots on target per game in the Premier League and 7.20 per game in the Europa League this season so the stats back up this bet.
Sparta Prague are underrated in the shots on target market. Let’s not forget their whole pride is at stake here and they are not as terrible as some people think. They converted 7 of their 10 shots on target last week and should get some opportunities again facing a potentially weakened Liverpool lineup. Taking the visitors just to have three or more shots on target looks well overpriced at 1.62. The likes of Kuchta Preciado and Haraslin were all lively in the first leg and they have some classy players who are going under the radar. Sparta Prague average 5.40 shots on target per game in the Europa League this season so statistically this is a good looking bet, even if they are away from home at Anfield.
Predictions:
⚽ Liverpool to have 7+ shots on target @ 1.50
⚽ Sparta Prague to have 3+ shots on target @ 1.62
