Watch Live: TNT Sports 1
Manchester United welcome Galatasaray on Tuesday evening as the second round of Champions League group games get underway. This one should be an absolutely fascinating watch for the neutral and there are plenty of interesting angles from a betting perspective.
Old Trafford is a very different place compared to the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign and it seems that the next crisis is never too far away. The public falling out between manager Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho is a prime example, a situation that shows no signs of being resolved. Antony has also endured some off-the-field problems which have certainly provided an unwanted distraction for the squad. The prolonged sale of the club by the Glazer family has added complexities and has made for a toxic atmosphere with constant protests and unrest amongst the fan base. It’s not even like the team are providing success on the pitch to compensate, Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace confirmed their worst start to a league campaign for 34 years. All in all, it’s pretty hard going being a United fan at the moment and things don’t get easier as Galatasaray, the champions of Turkey, are in town looking to pile on the pressure.
Okan Buruk’s Galatasaray arrive in Manchester in fantastic form and are currently unbeaten across all competitions this season. This run includes 11 wins and three draws in their opening 14 matches. They opened their Champions League campaign with an exhilarating 2-2 draw in Istanbul against FC Copenhagen, having been 2-0 down Buruk’s side rallied with two late goals to salvage a point. It’s not the first time they’ve fallen behind this season only to come back strong, something which was demonstrated at the weekend against Ankaragucu as they prevailed 2-1 having conceded first. The away side will have to snap a few streaks if they are to take anything from this game though. In the Champions League, they are winless on the road since 2013, drawing three and losing 14 in that period. Against English opposition, Galatasaray have won just three of 21 meetings, winning only one of their six v Manchester United.
The finer details of this exciting match will be explored in this article. In fact, two levels of a Manchester United v Galatasaray bet builder have been hand-picked using the help of our Cheat Sheet. You don’t want to miss out.

A must-win game for Erik ten Hag?
Following their defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, Erik ten Hag has shortened in the sack race and has just two matches left before the October international break to turn things around. After facing Galatasaray, attention will switch back to the Premier League as United host Brentford on Saturday and anything other than two wins from these games could spell real trouble for the former Ajax boss as the pressure continues to mount.
United have lost five of their opening nine matches in all competitions this season and are in desperate need of a positive result here. In terms of their Champions League campaign, they are already playing catch up having opened up with a pulsating 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich on matchday one. The Dutchman will be hoping, if not praying his side can kickstart their European campaign back on home soil. This one is almost in ‘must-win’ territory for the former Ajax man.
Man United team news
Erik ten Hag has a number of injuries to contend with ahead of this clash, especially in defence. Luke Shaw isn’t expected back until November following a lengthy absence and Tyrell Malacia won’t feature until late October. Sergio Reguilon, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is also doubtful having missed the Crystal Palace game on Saturday, therefore Sofyan Amrabat could continue to deputise in an unfamiliar left back role.
On the opposite side, Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains sidelined with a muscular problem so Diogo Dalot will start at right back. With Lisandro Martinez also out for an extended period, Victor Lindelof is expected to partner Raphael Varane at centre half. Mason Mount could join Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in midfield for his Champions League debut having started against Crystal Palace at the weekend. Meanwhile, ten Hag has confirmed that Antony is under consideration following his reintegration back into the squad.
Jadon Sancho remains away from first team action and may never play another game for the Red Devils given the ongoing feud with the manager. Youngsters Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo make up the lengthy list of players currently in the treatment room and the duo won’t feature against the Turkish champions.
Wilfried Zaha to haunt former club?
Wilfried Zaha is without question an exceptional talent, but there is a feeling that he never really got a fair crack of the whip at Manchester United, having been Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing as manager back in 2013. In fact, Zaha only ever made four appearances for United before rejoining his boyhood club just 18 months after leaving. There is a sense of inevitability that the former Premier League star will come back to haunt United.
The Ivorian finally left Crystal Palace in the summer, citing that he wanted to experience a different challenge before the end of his career. Despite a stuttering start to life in Turkey, he is beginning to flourish at his new club as he adjusts to a different league, culture and environment. The forward scored in the 2-1 win at the weekend and is sure to be one of the first names on the team sheet for Galatasaray as he looks to make an impact in his debut Champions League season.
Galatasaray team news
Galatasaray have a relatively healthy squad for their visit to Old Trafford. Only Turkish midfielder Kazimcan Karatas has been ruled out as the 20-year-old is still struggling with a knee injury. There are, however, slight concerns for both Hakim Ziyech and Tanguy Ndombélé. Ziyech was left out of the squad completely at the weekend against Ankaragucu while Ndombélé was an unused substitute in that game. The pair are likely to face late fitness tests ahead of kick-off and may end up missing out.
The visitors have a few familiar faces returning to England with a number of former Premier League players all likely to feature. Davinson Sanchez and Angelino, formally of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, could line up in defence while former combative Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira will anchor the midfield. Perhaps the biggest headline though is Wilfred Zaha’s return to Manchester United, the 30-year-old forward will occupy the advanced positions alongside Dries Mertins and Kerem Akturkoglu.
Assuming Ziyech doesn’t make the grade, it will be this front three hoping to provide Argentinian Mauro Icardi with the support needed to trouble United’s weakened defence, as the former Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain striker will lead the line for his side.

ABC’s 5/2 Man United v Galatasaray bet builder
✅ Man United to win
📈
Odds: 1.44
With the scrutiny surrounding Old Trafford at the moment, there is a sense that ten Hag must address his side’s poor form and he should have his players really fired up for this game. This is almost a must-win game so expect a bright start.
Before losing to Brighton and Crystal Palace, United had gone on an unbeaten run at home that stretched an impressive 31 games in all competitions. Despite the obvious pressure, United should have enough to get the job done.
Following the loss to Bayern Munich on matchday one, United will look to get their European campaign back on track and to do so they will need to capitalise on two consecutive home games against Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen.

⚽ Over 2.5 goals
📈
Odds: 1.50
With the ongoing issues surrounding United, there is every chance that Galatasaray could take advantage and the away side are fancied to get on the scoresheet, especially with the form of Icardi and Akturkoglu in the final third.
However, with that said United are clearly the superior side and ten Hag’s men will have plenty of opportunities themselves and are backed to grab a couple at the other end, an exciting high-scoring game could be in store.
Interestingly, a total of 60% of the combined games involving these sides this season has resulted in over 2.5 goals, nine of 14 for Galatasaray, and five of nine for United, and we can expect more of the same in this encounter.

🎯 Galatasaray to have 3+ shots on target
📈
Odds: 1.33
With several key defenders out injured for the home side, there is every chance that Galatasaray will get a few opportunities to test Andre Onana in the United goal, especially with the attacking talent at their disposal.
Across all competitions this season, the visitors have managed at least three shots on target in 13 of their 14 matches, the only exception being a Champions League qualifier where they were down to ten men having comfortably won the first leg 3-0.
Icardi and Akturkoglu currently top the charts for their side in this area. Between them, they have already amassed 20, with ten of these finding the back of the net. With Zaha now coming into his own, backing 3+ shots on target is the selection.

🛑 Diogo Dalot to commit 1+ fouls
📈
Odds: 1.62
Diogo Dalot could be in for a very tricky evening indeed. The Portuguese full back is likely to come up against Zaha and that could certainly spell trouble. But there is also Akturkoglu and Mertens to contend with, both of whom draw plenty of fouls themselves.
Zaha was the most fouled player in the Premier League last season while at Crystal Palace, drawing an average of 2.9 fouls per game and has already been fouled five times in a handful of games for Galatasaray this season.
Dalot is currently averaging just over one foul per game this campaign but he hasn’t quite encountered someone with the trickery and pace that Zaha possesses. It’s more than conceivable that he will miss time a few challenges and one foul is the play.

✅ Man United to win
📈
Odds: 1.44
With Galatasaray’s recent poor away form in the Champions League, and indeed their uninspiring record against English opposition, there is every reason to believe a home win is on the cards. Although the visitors have a number of ex-Premier League players in their ranks, the Turkish league is not as competitive and those players may well struggle with the intensity United will bring.

⚽ Over 2.5 goals
📈
Odds: 1.50
There is plenty of attacking talent on display for both sides and we should see an open and free-flowing game. Expect Galatasaray to sit in and soak up pressure, hitting United on the break. Rashford, Fernandes, Hojlund, and Mount could all have an impact for the hosts and will create plenty of chances throughout the game. With their backs against the wall, United should come out firing.

🎯 Galatasaray to have 4+ shots on target
📈
Odds: 1.91
Galatasaray are actually averaging 5.5 shots on target this season in all competitions, so boosting the selection from 3 to 4 certainly makes a lot of sense. What adds more weight to this selection is the fact United are currently allowing the opposition an average of 5.11 shots on goal this campaign. Only the two recent games against Crystal Palace have the other side failed to register at least 4.

🟨 Diogo Dalot to be shown a card
📈
Odds: 4.0
Diogo Dalot collected eight yellow cards last season and has already found his way into the referee’s notebook against Burnley this term. It’s likely that he will persistently bring down Wilfried Zaha and an accumulation of fouls could result in a yellow card. Ivan Kruzliak will officiate the match and the Slovakian has already dished out 40 yellows in his eight games in charge, an average of five per game.
