🟢 Hibs Hoping to Make Home Advantage Count
Hibs’ remarkable upturn in form last season was built on a strong home record. In fact, David Gray’s side have not lost in front of their own supporters since November last year, triumphing in 10 of their 13 home games since then.
After taking a surprise early lead in Denmark last week, Hibs could only manage a further 1 shot on target as they were forced into a backs-to-the-wall job, with Midtjylland ending the game with 74% possession. However, I expect the Hibees to take a more front-foot approach this time around, especially in front of what will be a passionate sell-out Easter Road crowd.
🔴 Midtjylland out to Make Amends
Based on the underlying data, Midtjylland will believe that they should be coming into the second leg of this tie with a lead to defend. Thomas Thomasberg’s team won last week’s expected goals (xG) battle 1.66 to 0.49, with the shot count 23-10 in their favour. However, Midtjylland have since fired in six goals against Sonderjyske, so they will be coming into this Thursday’s return match with their confidence restored.
The Danish outfit racked up 6 corners to Hibs’ 1 last Thursday, and they have since won the corner count 5-3 in their subsequent victory over Sonderjyske on Monday evening.
📊 Hibernian v Midtjylland H2H
Last week’s first leg represented the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Hibs previously came up against Danish SuperLiga opposition at the exact same stage of the competition way back in 2016, suffering an agonising 5-3 penalty shootout defeat against Brondby on that occasion.
