Over 0.5 Hibernian Goals

I think the market is currently undervaluing the likelihood of Hibs pushing Midtjylland all the way again this week, with the Scottish hosts an attractive option to score at least once on Thursday night at 1.4. Only Celtic (112) and Rangers (80) scored more goals than Hibs (62) in last season’s Scottish Premiership.

What’s more, David Gray’s side netted in 18 of their 19 league games at home last season, striking multiple times against both Celtic and Rangers. Thus, the Hibees hold plenty of appeal to make their mark when hosting a Midtjylland side that have failed to keep a clean sheet across their three competitive outings this season so far.

Over 2.5 Goals

Over 2.5 Goals looks like a value option to consider on Thursday night at 1.73. Midtjylland are two games into their Danish Superliga campaign, opening up with a 3-3 draw against Odense before dishing out a 6-2 drubbing to Sonderjyske on Monday night.

While last week’s first leg ended 1-1, I’m expecting a more open affair in the Scottish capital. Hibs were no strangers to goal-heavy games last season, with 13 of their 19 Scottish Premiership home matches breaking the Over 2.5 Goal barrier, including 3-3 and 2-2 draws with Rangers.

  • Hibs have not lost a home game since November 2024, winning ten of their 13 matches since then.

  • Midtjylland have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their opening three games of the season across all competitions.

  • Both teams have scored in each of Midtjylland’s opening three games of the season across all competitions.

After playing out a 1-1 draw in last week’s first leg, Hibernian and FC Midtjylland battle it out once again in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier at Easter Road on Thursday night.

Hibs are big outsiders at 3.6 with Midtjylland 1.9 favourites while a repeat of last week’s draw has been priced up at 3.8.

🟢 Hibs Hoping to Make Home Advantage Count

Hibs’ remarkable upturn in form last season was built on a strong home record. In fact, David Gray’s side have not lost in front of their own supporters since November last year, triumphing in 10 of their 13 home games since then.

After taking a surprise early lead in Denmark last week, Hibs could only manage a further 1 shot on target as they were forced into a backs-to-the-wall job, with Midtjylland ending the game with 74% possession. However, I expect the Hibees to take a more front-foot approach this time around, especially in front of what will be a passionate sell-out Easter Road crowd.

🔴 Midtjylland out to Make Amends

Based on the underlying data, Midtjylland will believe that they should be coming into the second leg of this tie with a lead to defend. Thomas Thomasberg’s team won last week’s expected goals (xG) battle 1.66 to 0.49, with the shot count 23-10 in their favour. However, Midtjylland have since fired in six goals against Sonderjyske, so they will be coming into this Thursday’s return match with their confidence restored.

The Danish outfit racked up 6 corners to Hibs’ 1 last Thursday, and they have since won the corner count 5-3 in their subsequent victory over Sonderjyske on Monday evening.

📊 Hibernian v Midtjylland H2H

Last week’s first leg represented the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Hibs previously came up against Danish SuperLiga opposition at the exact same stage of the competition way back in 2016, suffering an agonising 5-3 penalty shootout defeat against Brondby on that occasion.
