FC Midtjylland to Win

FC Midtjylland have plenty of European pedigree to call upon and they should prove too strong for Hibernian on Thursday evening. The Wolves have been regulars on the continental circuit for a number of years now, most notably participating in the group stage of the Champions League back in season 2020-21, not to mention they reached the play-off round of last season’s Europa League after placing inside the top 24 of the new look league phase.

Hibs, on the other hand, will return to Europe for the first time since losing 8-0 on aggregate to Aston Villa in a Europa Conference League qualifier two years ago. While I’m not expecting the Edinburgh outfit to be outclassed to that extent here, I do suspect they will come up short in Scandinavia on Thursday evening.

Over 1.5 Midtjylland Goals

Not only do I expect Midtjylland to win Thursday’s first leg but I’m confident in their ability to score a couple of goals for good measure. No side racked up more goals than Thomas Thomasberg’s team (64) in the Danish Superliga last season, hitting multiple strikes in 12 of their 16 home games. On top of that, the Danish heavyweights also scored in eight of their 10 matches in last season’s Europa League, netting twice against the likes of Fenerbahce and Real Sociedad.

  • FC Midtjylland won a league-high 14 of their 16 Danish Superliga home games last season.

  • No team scored more goals than FC Midtjylland (64) in last season’s Danish Superliga.

  • Hibernian broke their transfer record last week to sign striker Thibault Klidje.

FC Midtjylland and Hibernian will face off in a Europa League 2nd round qualifier at the MCH Arena on Thursday evening. The Danish hosts are 1.36 favourites with Hibernian huge 7.50 underdogs, and the draw has been chalked up at 4.40.

🔴 Midtjylland Out to Make Amends

After suffering final day heartbreak last season, Midtjylland were forced to settle for second spot in the Danish Superliga, finishing just one point behind eventual winners FC Copenhagen. The Wolves kicked off their latest pursuit for domestic glory with a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to OB on Sunday. Thomas Thomasberg’s team registered 17 shots during their opening league game of the season, with seven of those efforts hitting the target.

🟢 Hibs Hoping to Carry Momentum forward

Hibernian enjoyed one of the biggest turnarounds in the 2024-25 campaign. David Gray’s side found themselves bottom of the table in early December last year before embarking on a 17-game unbeaten run that laid the foundation for them to finish 3rd in the Scottish Premiership and seal a return to Europe. That remarkable sequence included wins over both Celtic and Rangers, so the Hibees won’t be fazed by the prospect of going up against Danish giants Midtjylland.

Hibs have since broken their transfer record to sign striker Thibault Klidje, while the signing of Scotland Under-21 star Josh Mulligan also looks like a shrewd piece of business.

📊 Midtjylland v Hibernian H2H

It will come as no surprise to learn that FC Midtjylland and Hibernian will go head-to-head for the first time ever on Thursday evening. However, the Danish side have come up against Scottish opposition in the not too distant past, losing to Rangers in the 3rd round of Europa League qualifying back in 2019 before dumping Celtic out of the preliminary stages of the Champions League two years later.
