- Mjällby v Sirius
- Allsvenskan
- 15:30
Mjällby are top of the league, unbeaten in nine, winning seven of these matches
Mjällby are the league’s highest scorers (33 goals) while Sirius has one of the worst defences in Allsvenskan (28 conceded)
Mjällby have won four of the last five head-to-heads and beat Sirius 2-1 two weeks ago
League leaders Mjällby continue to go from strength to strength, not wavering in their unexpected quest to win Allsvenskan for the first time in their history. They are four points ahead of Hammarby in second, with another four points down to AIK in third. They have picked up 13 points of the last 15 possible, remaining unbeaten for nine consecutive matches.
Sirius, on the other hand, have a tough task in staying in the top tier this season. They sit in 13th, only a point above the relegation zone, and staying above Degerfors in the negative playoff spot only on goal difference. They have now lost three in a row and are winless since 1st June.
The bookies rightly expect Mjällby to take the three points home, being priced at 1.57, the draw giving 4.20 and a Sirius victory highly unlikely at 5.0.
A high-scoring game is also on the cards, with the over 2.5 goals sitting at 1.57 while the unders line is currently at 2.25.

🟡 Mjällby Just Keep Going
Few could have predicted the league table after just over half the season played, and I bet not a single soul would have Mjällby in first and champions Malmö in 5th.
This is the current state of play, with the minnows from Blekinge four points ahead of Hammarby, showing no signs of slowing down. They are on a nine-game unbeaten run, having won seven of those, and look stronger than ever. They rarely blow teams away, winning all of the games in their recent run by either one or two goals, but always seem to take control of matches, grinding their opponents down and finding an eventual breakthrough.
Mjällby’s defensive solidity is a big part of their success, conceding only 0.76 goals per game, having kept six clean sheets in 17 games. They have only conceded two goals in their last five matches, overperforming their xGA somewhat but mostly limiting their opponents’ chances by protecting their box admirably. In addition, they score nearly two goals per game on average (1.94), making them hugely difficult to beat or even take points off.
🔵 Sirius’ Relegation Scrap
Ahead of the season there were conflicting reports from the Sirius faithful – an offensively powerful squad and a new exciting manager, combined with a lack of defensive nous and no natural leaders. The downsides have proven to outweigh the positives, with the playing style implemented by Andreas Engelmark not hitting home and Sirius being much too frail defensively, conceding 1.75 goals per game from 1.68 xG on average, keeping just a single clean sheet. They have lacked the directness of recent years while also not taking enough control of possession, averaging 49%.
Leo Walta has been one of Allsvenskan’s best midfielders this season and has saved them on several occasions, scoring seven goals to date. New striker Robbie Ure has impressed up top, too, bagging six goals and providing another three assists. Other than that, the offensive firepower has been relatively dry, not getting enough out of Joakim Persson (1G/2A) and Melker Heier (0G/1A), the latter being suspended here.
📊 Mjällby v Sirius H2H
Whenever these meet, we tend to see goals in both directions, and plenty of them. When they last faced up two weeks back Mjällby came out victorious, getting two goals early on and never letting go, although Sirius clawed one back late on. Sirius actually created plenty and won the xG battle (2.06 – 0.94), but could not put their chances away.
We have seen an average of 3.6 goals per game in the last five head-to-heads, with Mjällby getting the better of Sirius on four out of five occasions, the final encounter ending in a draw.
