Monaco host PSG at Stade Louis II on Friday in a showpiece Ligue 1 encounter that is particularly important for the home team.
Adi Hutter’s side have been frustratingly inconsistent this season and especially so at home. The principality club have suffered four losses in front of their fans already this season, scoring only 18 of their 44 goals this season in these fixtures.
Monaco have, though, put in a couple of eye-catching victories in recent weeks by winning away at Nice and Lens. Those successes have fuelled their push for a top-four finish, which is synonymous with Champions League football next season.
PSG, meanwhile, will have one eye on the European Cup coming into this match. A fixture against Real Sociedad in Spain looms on Tuesday, and while Luis Enrique’s side have a 2-0 advantage to take to an out-of-form opponent, Les Parisiens are yet to win on the road in Europe this season.
For a Monaco v PSG bet builder, it is important to recognise that the visitors are likely to rotate their squad and, just as importantly, make early changes if and when the match is decided.

🏆 Match stats: Goals galore
PSG having one eye on Europe throws a little doubt into the outcome of this match, particularly as they hold an 11-point advantage in Ligue 1 that already looks unassailable. They can, therefore, treat this fixture as preparation for what’s to come a few days later against Real Sociedad.
It showed last week in a 1-1 draw against Rennes that PSG are vulnerable to dropping points against Ligue 1’s best teams when not fully focused on the job.
Monaco, meanwhile, have a good record against the Ligue 1 champions, particularly at home. They have won each of their last two against the Parc des Princes side on their home patch, scoring exactly three goals on each occasion.
And it is goals that look the likely outcome on Friday. These are two of the three most exciting teams in the league based on the number of goals their matches are producing this season, with Monaco out in front on 78, five more than their opponents.
The hosts have conceded 34 goals so far this season, which is more than any other team in the top nine and with PSG top scoring in the league with 54, this appears to be a recipe for more excitement.
With PSG winning the previous meeting between these sides 5-2, expect more excitement, even if the outcome of the game is liable to be closer.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 2.5 goals @ 1.45
⚽ Both teams to score @ 1.40
🎯 Shooting stats: Minamino to carry Monaco threat
Kylian Mbappe is a natural bet for shots, yet there was a seismic shift in his status at PSG last weekend when he was taken off with the club chasing an equaliser. No longer is he a player who will be guaranteed 90 minutes, so while he is likely to retain a high shots per 90 ratio as shown on the Monaco v PSG Cheat Sheet, his average minutes are likely to drop, making him a risky proposition.
Randal Kolo Muani, meanwhile, could well start this game and is second when it comes to shots on target per 90 for PSG. He only posts a tally of 0.88 due to Mbappe’s previous dominance, yet there is likely to be a shift in figures going forward.
Goncalo Ramos is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of this. It would not even be a huge surprise to see him start this match, in which case 3.0 to have more than 2 shots on target is attractive.
Monaco’s team selection is likely to be easier to predict. Look for Takumi Minamino to make an impact in this game. The former Liverpool man scored twice last weekend against Lens and posts an average of 1.38 shots on target per 90. After mustering 4 shots on target in the previous meeting between the clubs, he is a player who should be monitored.
Folarin Balogun, meanwhile, is an interesting proposition. He has managed to retain his starting place despite disappointing form and is averaging 3.39 shots per game. Look for the American, who had 5 shots on target in Lens, to make an impact in this encounter.
Predictions:
⚽ Folarin Balogun to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.36
⚽ Takumi Minamino to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.44
⚽ Goncalo Ramos to have 2+ shots on target @ 3.0
🛑 Fouls stats: Surprising options for both sides
Monaco have defensive issues in the full back areas ahead of this encounter, which could be seen as something of a weakness to be exploited by PSG.
Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe and Lee Kang-in all win more than 1.5 fouls per game on average, while Randal Kolo Muani, who could be used through the middle or wider, boasts 2.5.
This is the area where there is likely to be a high foul count. Look to Wilfried Singo and Mohammed Salisu to be involved in this action, with both candidates to commit multiple fouls at 2.10 and 2.40 respectively.
From a Monaco perspective, Takumi Minamino is a player liable to draw fouls. The Monaco stats show he is winning 1.83 free kicks per 90 minutes. He will be up against PSG’s most prolific criminal in the form of Kolo Muani, who is only 1.36 to commit 2 or more fouls. This is not great value.
A more interesting proposition might be Nuno Mendes should he be handed his first start after long term injury. PSG would ideally like the Portuguese to get match time ahead of Real Sociedad, so he could play for an hour. Rusty after his time out and up against an opponent expert at drawing fouls, this will be a test.
Predictions:
⚽ Wilfried Singo to commit 2+ fouls @ 2.10
⚽ Mohammed Salisu to commit 2+ fouls @ 2.40
