PSG were able to secure an impressive comeback in the first leg of this all-French matchup last week, putting them in a commanding spot to book their place in the Champions League round of 16.

After going 2-0 down early on courtesy of a Folarin Balogun brace, the Parisians fought back to restore parity before half-time. Aleksandr Golovin was sent off soon after the second period started, allowing PSG to dominate with the man advantage. 

However, they were only able to score once, which means Monaco aren’t quite out of contention just yet. They managed to beat PSG 1-0 when these sides last met in the league, which should give them some belief. 

However, it seems unlikely for them to keep PSG out for a second time this season, especially at the Parc des Princes. The Red and Whites should be attack-minded in their approach here, which could make for quite an open contest.

Monaco mustered up just 20% possession in the first leg, as they opted for quite a pragmatic approach from the first whistle. They also weren’t helped by the red card. Because of that, they registered eleven fouls, to PSG’s four, resulting in two yellow cards and the red.

This selection also landed comfortably when these sides met in the league back in November.

Once again, Monaco were shown a straight red card - this time awarded to Thilo Kehrer for a last man challenge against his former club. Monaco were shown an additional three yellow cards.

Monaco have been an aggressive side this season, and they are averaging 2.57 cards per match, rising to 3.11 when playing away. If the game does get stretched, there should be space for PSG to exploit, which makes cynical fouls probable, and cards a target.

PSG come into this match with a one-goal advantage, but they are likely to maintain their front-footed approach here. Luis Enrique is not the type of manager to set his side up in a pragmatic deep block, especially at the Parc-des-Princes, so PSG will still hope to carve out chances. 

PSG had plenty of success in the final third in the reverse fixture, and Nuno Mendes accounted for one shot. Mendes was an unused substitute at the weekend against Metz, but he looks set to replace Lucas Hernandez at left back here. The Portuguese international might be listed as a fullback on paper, but he is given plenty of attacking license, and is averaging 1.77 shots per 90 across all competitions.

That figure rises to 1.93 when playing in Paris, where Mendes has registered 14 shots in his last five starts alone.

PSG had very little defensive work to do in the first leg, as they were adept at sustaining pressure on Monaco, but Vitinha still managed to land this selection with one foul.

He also registered four tackles, out of 11 in total for PSG, which shows how he was kept relatively busy in midfield. With Monaco hoping to establish more of a foothold on proceedings on Wednesday night, Vitinha should once again be called into plenty of duels. 

Vitinha is averaging 0.58 fouls per 90 across all competitions this season, which is nothing to write home about, but he has landed this selection in ten of his last 15 starts. That includes three fouls against Monaco when these sides met in Ligue 1, as Vitinha was also carded in the first half.

He should find duels against Lamine Camara in midfield, who is averaging 2.25 fouls drawn per 90 this campaign.
