Nottingham Forest v Newcastle
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 10th November at 14:00
🏆
Competition: Premier League
📺
Watch Live: Sky Sports Main Event
In-form Nottingham Forest are in nosebleed territory near the summit of the Premier League, though the Tricky Trees will be determined to maintain their early-season surge with a victory over Newcastle at the City Ground on Sunday.
Forest moved up to third spot following a rousing 3-0 win over West Ham in their last assignment in Nottingham and with home advantage to harness again this weekend, Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds could triumph again.
⭐ Nottingham Forest v Newcastle Best Bets
Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a scintillating start to the campaign and moved up to third spot in the table for the first time in 26 years after their convincing win over West Ham. The Tricky Trees have lost just once in 10 Premier League fixtures so far and are averaging 1.90 points per game, while only Liverpool posted a better figure for xGA.
Newcastle meanwhile, edged out Arsenal in their last Premier League tussle, however, they lodged a meagre 0.50 in xGF against the Gunners and could toil in the final third against a rock-solid Forest defence. The Magpies lost three and drew two of their five league contests before their surprise upturn against Arsenal, so back Forest in the draw no bet market at a generous price here.

🔍 Nottingham Forest v Newcastle Players to Watch
🔴 Chris Wood
Broad-shouldered New Zealander Chris Wood has been a devastating presence in the final third for Nottingham Forest this season and the 32-year-old’s eight goals have helped to fire the Trees to lofty heights in the Premier League table.
Wood has been averaging 2.25 shots and 1.46 on target per 90 minutes in the league this term and he should carry just as much threat on Sunday. The ex-Newcastle striker was given few opportunities to shine during his time with the Magpies, so expect Wood to play with extra vim against his former employers.
🔴 Anthony Elanga
Anthony Elanga was the subject of a £50m bid from Newcastle during the summer transfer window, though the Swede stuck with Forest and he can show the Magpies what they missed on Sunday. As one of the quickest players in the Premier League, Elanga is often cut down by defenders during his forward bursts and we’re tipping the 22-year-old to draw at least one foul here.
Elanga has been fouled 1.45 times per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season and the winger had his ankles clipped at least once in three of his last four starts in the division. Expect similar on Sunday.
⚫ Joelinton
Joelinton is an established foul-machine for Newcastle and the burly Brazilian has been committing 2.48 fouls per 90 minutes so far this season, making him the most ill-disciplined player in the Magpies’ squad.
The 28-year-old has committed a massive 28 fouls overall and no other player in the Premier League has given away more free kicks than Joelinton since the start of the new campaign. Forest have some tough customers in midfield, so look for Joelinton to throw himself into at least two skirmishes at the City Ground.

💻 Nottingham Forest v Newcastle Form and Tactics
Nottingham Forest supporters are probably experiencing vertigo at present and their club’s emphatic 3-0 triumph over West Ham last weekend was their fifth victory of the campaign so far. That result against the Hammers catapulted Forest up to third spot in the standings and only Liverpool and Manchester City have lodged more Premier League wins than the Tricky Trees since the summer.
While eight-goal Chris Wood has been hogging the limelight in attack, Forest’s defending and overall work out of possession has been the chief reason for their early success this term. Indeed, while Forest sit in a modest 14th position for xGF (13.60), they rank as the division’s second-best outfit behind Liverpool for xGA (9.50), while only Man City (3.10) have been conceding fewer shots on target per 90 (3.30).
Forest’s 3-0 win over ten-man West Ham was just the second time in 10 league fixtures involving the Reds this season where over 2.5 goals landed, however. Nottingham Forest’s Premier League matches have been averaging just 2.10 goals per game so far, in fact, only Newcastle’s (2.00) fixtures have seen less action.
The Magpies (11th) have been both scoring and conceding just one goal per game on average this season and have a neutral goal difference (0) after 10 assignments as a result, so bettors shouldn’t expect a deluge of goalmouth action on Sunday.
In contrast to some of the stuff they played last year, Newcastle’s football has lacked imagination this term and they rank as a bottom-half outfit for shot-creating actions (22.7), touches in the attacking third (136.7) and for touches in the opponent’s box (23.9) per 90 minutes.
Newcastle managed to score just three goals from open play in their last six Premier League matches combined and that record should be a major cause for concern ahead of a test against a stingy Forest defence.
