Partick Thistle will play host to Airdrie in the Scottish Championship on Friday night. The hosts are firm 1.57 favourites, with Airdrie big outsiders at 5.00 - here are my two best bets for the match.

Partick Thistle to Win @ 1.59

I’ve been really impressed with Partick Thistle’s start to the season and I would expect them to prove too strong for Airdrie on Friday night. Mark Wilson’s hosts come into this clash after back of back-to-back wins over Ross County and Raith Rovers. What’s more, Thistle are also through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup after claiming a 2-0 win over Ayr United last month.

As for Airdrie, they are still searching for their first league win of the season, having drawn two and lost two of their opening four contests of the campaign. The Diamonds have already lost away from home against both Dunfermline and Arbroath, and I expect them to suffer the same fate at Firhill on Friday night.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.76

While I strongly fancy Partick Thistle to win on Friday night, I suspect they may need multiple goals to get the job done. Mark Wilson’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their four Scottish Championship outings this season, conceding a combined total of nine goals so far.

That can be attributed to three of Thistle’s opening four league matches of the season producing Over 2.5 Goals, including each of their last two. With that in mind, I’m more than happy to side with the same selection at Firhill on Friday night.

While Airdrie have made a slow start to the season, they have scored in six of their eight matches across all competitions, so the hosts could concede a consolation goal.

🟡 Partick Building Momentum

Partick Thistle have shown no signs of a hangover from last season’s play-off semi-final defeat to Livingston. The Jags won each of their four matches during the group stage of the Scottish League Cup and they have since seen off Ayr United in the round of 16.

While Thistle were thrashed 5-1 by St Johnstone on the opening weekend of the Scottish Championship season, they have bounced back strongly to collect seven points from their subsequent three matches, including notable wins over both Ross County and Raith Rovers.

Logan Chalmers has been one of Partick’s standout performers across the opening stretch of the season, scoring in each of his last four outings across all competitions.

Difficult Start For The Diamonds

I think I speak for most followers of Scottish football when I say that it was a real shock to see Rhys McCabe resign from his post as Airdrie manager last month. The Diamonds have since brought in Danny Lennon, with the former Clyde and St Mirren manager’s debut ending in a 1-0 defeat away at Arbroath the weekend before last.

That means Airdrie have taken just two points from a possible 12 this season, a return that has left them sitting joint bottom of the Scottish Championship table.

New boss Lennon did add to his squad towards the end of the transfer window, most notably securing a return to the club for fan favourite Charlie Telfer.

📊 Partick Thistle v Airdrie H2H

Partick Thistle held the upper hand in this fixture last season, triumphing in two of the four meetings between the pair. However, it is worth noting that each of those two victories were posted across the first two contests between the two teams last term.

Thereafter, Airdrie battled their way to a 1-1 draw on their second visit to Firhill before claiming a 2-1 win at home during last season’s fourth and final meeting between the duo.
