Aston Villa welcome PSG to Villa Park for the very first time, with Unai Emery’s side hoping to create a bit of history by overturning a 3-1 scoreline from the first leg. The semi-finals of the Champions League are uncharted territory as of yet for Aston Villa. Villa have been strong at home in the Champions League this season, winning four of their five games at Villa Park, which included a notable win over Bayern Munich in the league phase.
PSG have been in this position so many times before, but this year certainly feels different. The soft underbelly associated with the egos in PSG sides of the past has been washed away by Luis Enrique, who has replaced this arrogance with a concerted team effort. PSG are arguably the best side in Europe at the moment and will take some stopping with their relentless attacking trio.
⭐ Aston Villa v PSG Best Bet
Villa only had two shots on target in the first leg, but you would expect that total to increase here with Villa needing a few goals to get back into the tie. Rogers had both of Villa’s shots on target in the first leg and also scored the opener, getting on the end of a well put together move.
PSG are likely to be just as threatening going forward in this game, but may have to concede some of their domination to manage this European tie. Villa will start quickly with the deficit from the first leg, prompting urgency from Unai Emery’s men. Aston Villa are averaging 5.1 shots on target per game in the Champions League this season, which is an average they should be able to live up to here. PSG have been really impressive this year, but defensive security is not at the top of their agenda as they can outscore most sides - the Ligue 1 Champions have kept just one clean sheet across their last five games in all competitions.
Rogers has been particularly impressive in the Champions League this season for Aston Villa. He’s registered six goal contributions across his 11 appearances in the competition, which is a more than respectable record for a young player embarking on his first Champions League campaign. He’s had 23 shots (2.21 per 90) and nine shots on target across these games (0.87 per 90).

🔍 Aston Villa v PSG Players to Watch
🔵 Ousmane Dembele
Dembele took on a more supporting role in the first leg, providing an assist for Nuno Mendes’ goal as well as creating more chances than any other player in the game (eight). Dembele had four shots in the game with one of those finding the target, he’s certainly got the skillset to be a creative outlet, but he should be able to return to his usual goalscoring form here.
Dembele has scored 32 goals across his 41 appearances in all competitions this season, and is the top scorer across Europe’s top five leagues since the turn of the year. He’s scored seven goals across his 11 appearances in the Champions League this season and will get opportunities when the game is stretched, as Aston Villa go chasing a few goals to get back into the tie.
🔵 Nuno Mendes
Mendes continues to establish himself as one of the best left backs in Europe. The 22-year-old was superb in the first leg just as he was in the round of 16 against Liverpool, in offering defensive security as well as a threat going in the opposite direction, portrayed perfectly by his late goal to give PSG a two-goal cushion coming into the second leg.
Mendes has had 13 shots across his 12 appearances in the Champions League this season (1.06 per 90) - a record that has returned three goals for the left back. PSG had 29 shots in the first leg with Mendes having three shots in the game as well as providing a goal and an assist.
