A few years ago, this would’ve been quite the mouth-watering prospect. However, with Monaco sitting 9th in Ligue 1, the fixture looks somewhat uninspiring - backed up by the bookies pricing the hosts at 1.22.

Real Madrid come into this after a bit of a rollercoaster. They were beaten in the Super Cup final by bitter rivals Barcelona, parted company with Xabi Alonso, only to be knocked out of the Copa Del Rey by Albacete.

Alvaro Arbeloa is the replacement for now, and he steered them back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Levante on Saturday.

📂 Real Madrid v Monaco Cheat Sheet

📈 Real Madrid v Monaco Form & Tactics

It has been a strange couple of weeks for Los Blancos, but, overall, they’ve lost just two league matches, and only one of them came on home soil, with nine wins from 10 matches at the Bernabeu.

Goals have been steady at home for Los Blancos, with an average of 2.90 per match, but they have been contributing to those numbers solely on plenty of occasions, keeping a clean sheet in half of their home games.

Cup competitions have provided a nice distraction for Monaco. They’ve lost four straight league games, but have kept a some sense of positivity with wins in the Coupe de France and against Galatasaray in their previous Champions League outing.

Goals have been top of the agenda for Monaco. No side in France’s top -light has seen more than their 3.39 on average, but I’m more looking at how many they’ll ship. They’ve kept just two clean sheets in 18 domestic matches.

📔 Real Madrid v Monaco Formation & Team News

Real have had a lot of changes recently, with several competitions on the go and rotation aplenty. So it’s hard to call how they’ll look here, especially given that they have a difficult trip to 3rd-placed Villarreal after this.

It’s safe to assume a 4-3-3 shape, and I’d expect them to be at close to full strength, which so far doesn’t look to differ much from Xabi Alonso’s team selection.

Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all absent through injury for the hosts and Brahim Diaz is on international duty. A really disappointing absence is Rodrygo, who had looked excellent recently but has also picked up an injury.

Monaco have often deployed a four-at-the-back system, but in the Champions League, they have been keen on a three-at-the-back system with wing backs. It can be quite a defensive look, with combative midfielders also involved. One of whom is often Jordan Teze, who is a natural defender.

Monaco remain without key players. Krepin Diatta and Lamine Camara are on international duty. Christian Mawissa, Paul Pogba, Takumi Minamino and Lukas Hradecky are all absent due to injury.
