La Liga leaders Real Madrid face Sevilla this weekend in what could be a very important game in the race for the title in Spain. This is a fixture that's provided lots of drama and excitement in recent years. 

Real Madrid have had an exceptional season thus far, collecting 62 points from 25 league games and they boast the best offensive and defensive records in La Liga. Even with their strength this year, they still find themselves in a title race with Girona who closely lurk behind. After dropping vital points away at Rayo Vallecano last weekend, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will need to respond here. 

Sevilla have struggled mightily this season having gathered a mere 24 points from their 25 outings which sees them straggling seven points above relegation. However, they have found some form in recent weeks - unbeaten in their last four including a victory over Atletico Madrid, albeit against every statistic in that matchup.

Nothing could separate these two sides in the reverse fixture with the points being shared in a 1-1 draw - can Sevilla steal more points from the Galacticos?

🏆 Match stats: Madrid to continue their title push

Real Madrid have put last season’s chequered results behind them and have come out a real powerhouse in this campaign. Their last and only loss of the season so far came all the way back in September, claiming 14 victories since, being denied the full house with five draws - some serious form. Across their last five matches they have won three and drawn two, not too dissimilar from Sunday’s visitors - two wins, two draws and a loss. This includes a rather dominant 1-0 victory in the Champions League at RB Leipzig. Although the spoils were shared in their last meeting, Real had been victorious in the four previous meetings between these two and are undefeated against Sevilla since 2018 - 10 games. With only two victories in the last 14 against Real Madrid, Los Nervionenses will be apprehensive coming into this clash at the Bernabéu. Even despite their recent improvement in form, this one may be beyond Sevilla’s reach. Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back in style from their latest draw and we expect them to be too much on Sunday for this Sevilla side.

🥅 Goals stats: A historic love for drama in this fixture

Real Madrid do boast a truly wicked defensive record in La Liga, only conceding a very impressive 16 goals throughout this campaign, but this fixture seems to attract drama and plenty of goals, from both teams. Before their 1-1 draw back in October, all of the previous five meetings between these two saw at least three goals scored with both teams getting on the scoresheet. Of these same five games, three saw 4+ goals. The biggest worry for the goals markets is, of course, relying on Sevilla to bring something to the table but they’re certainly no strangers to grabbing a goal in all styles of games. Before their pitiful blank against Valencia last time out, Sevilla had found the net in five consecutive La Liga outings. In fact they have only been shut out on seven occasions throughout this league campaign. Sunday’s hosts are also without some key defensive players, long-term injuries mostly, but with Dani Carvajal picking up a straight red card last week and Jude Bellingham still set to miss out with an ankle sprain, there’ll be vulnerabilities in this Real side for Sevilla to exploit. Real have scored 2+ goals in eight of their last 11 matches across all competitions and they can prove a serious threat to any side in the world.

🎯 Shooting stats: Vini Jr to star in this one

There aren't many players that are as exciting as Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid and the Brazilian star is enjoying another strong campaign with Los Blancos. He is a key piece of the hosts' attacking presence and we expect him to have some fun against a defensively shaky Sevilla side. With seven goals and four assists from 16 games played this season, Vinicius Junior is worth a look in the shooting markets. He is averaging a very strong 3.36 shots per 90 during this term and 1.45 shots on target per 90. He has registered 19 efforts at goal from six starts at the Bernabéu this season. Yes, he is without a shot on target in his last two games, but prior to that he registered 2+ shots on target in six consecutive matches across all competitions, picking up six goals along the way. Sevilla have managed only three clean sheets from 12 away trips this season and Real Madrid are a real force at home.

Another historically strong market for this fixture is cards. Sevilla are currently boasting the fourth-worst disciplinary record in the league, having racked up an impressive 70 bookings so far this season, averaging 2.80 bookings a game. In each of the last five meetings between these two sides there has been at least five total cards distributed amongst the two sides giving a whopping total of 31 across those matchups. There were seven cards shown in the reverse fixture back in October. Another strong angle in this fixture is for Sevilla to receive the most bookings which is generously priced at 1.57 given the recent meetings. This selection has landed in six consecutive meetings between these two, including three games on Madrid soil. Real Madrid boast the third-best disciplinary record in La Liga, picking up only 45 bookings across their 25 league outings this season, 1.80 bookings per 90 for Los Blancos. A final angle for the cards markets is for there to be a red card shown on Sunday. Sevilla have picked up four red cards this season, the third-highest total in the league, and Real Madrid follow shortly behind with three. There was a red card in the reverse fixture last season and with such high potential for bookings, who's to say someone won't lose their temper more than once - or maybe once will be enough.
