Brais Mendez was shown a straight red card for violent conduct when he last faced Athletic Bilbao. Even though he would've felt hard done by that decision as his hand merely brushed the face of Aitor Paredes, Mendez has shown he is not one to shy away from a strong challenge, and he is averaging 2.33 fouls per 90 across all competitions this season. On his return from suspension, he racked up four fouls against Real Oviedo and was booked.

In the Basque Derby, his numbers are even more eye-catching. In his last six starts against Bilbao, he is averaging 3.39 fouls per 90, but has somehow only escaped with one booking. His foul counts read: 1 (sent off after 20 minutes), 4, 2, 1 (appearance off the bench), 2, 3.

Given how the last meeting went, Mendez is likely to play with even more aggression, looking to take his frustration out again on the Bilbao players.

Yuri Berchiche was absent from the first leg due to injury, but looks set for a swift recall to the starting eleven here. He has started and completed the full 90 in each of the last four matches at left back, so looks to be at full fitness.

He is another player who seems to look forward to the Basque Derby, and he has been booked in each of his last three appearances against Real Sociedad. Berchiche is averaging 0.74 fouls per 90 this season across all competitions, which is nothing to write home about, but that figure rises to 1.6 fouls per 90 in his last five meetings against Sociedad.

Berchiche was carded in both league meetings against Real Sociedad this season, as Goncalo Guedes had the upper hand in the matchup on the flank. If Berchiche is to play at fullback again, that could be a mismatch - the 36-year-old hasn’t quite got the turn of pace to keep up with his marker, so could be forced into cynical fouls.

Oihan Sancet has only picked up five cards in 28 appearances this season, but one of those came against Real Sociedad when they met at the Reale Arena in November. That was given to him for getting into a bit of a scrap with the Sociedad players, and Sancet has shown a tendency to lose his head. He was shown a straight red card against Barcelona earlier this season, as he lashed out with his side losing 4-0.

Sancet is averaging 1.42 fouls per 90 this season, and four of his five cards have come when playing away. Based on that, and the magnitude of this fixture, this price as a single looks good value.
