Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Score Anytime

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has rejoined Marseille at the age of 36, having spent a year in Saudi Arabia playing for Al Qadasiya. He scored 21 goals across his 36 appearances in all competitions for the Saudi Pro League side.

Aubameyang scored twice in Marseille’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa in pre-season, despite only being on the pitch for 44 minutes. His levels haven’t dropped, despite a year in Saudi Arabia. Aubameyang netted 30 goals across his 51 appearances for Marseille during the 23/24 campaign, which are numbers we can expect him to replicate this season.

Over 2.5 Goals

Both head-to-head meetings between these sides last season saw three or more goals scored. Marseille recorded a 2-1 win on the road in the initial clash between the sides, before firing four goals past Rennes in a 4-2 win when Rennes travelled down to Marseille.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side finished as runners up to PSG in Ligue 1 last season and saw a notable 57 goals across their 17 away games last term (3.35 per game).

  • Marseille won both head-to-head clashes last season, while both matches also saw BTTS Yes

  • In total, Marseille have won five of the last seven head-to-head meetings

  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored goals across 36 matches for Al Qadasiya last term - he also netted twice against Aston Villa in a recent friendly

Following their 2nd place finish in the league last term, Marseille are the current 1.95 favourites to win here.

Rennes are 3.50 to win, with the draw at 3.60. Rennes avoided defeat in 10 of their 17 home matches last season, so taking them at 1.75 in the double chance market holds some appeal.

🔴 Rennes Tough to Beat at Home

Rennes finished 12th in Ligue 1 last season in a pretty unremarkable campaign, winning 13 of their 34 games in the French top flight. Their home form was pretty decent, though, as Habib Beye’s side avoided defeat in 10 of their 17 home games, though they did lose both head-to-head meetings against Marseille.

Rennes’ manager, Habib Baye, recorded the best win percentage since now Lille boss Bruno Genesio, with a 53% win percentage and an average of 1.6 points per game. Rennes had four managers last season, which would indicate that this is a club in a little bit of turmoil, though Beye has shown promise in his early games in charge. We can expect Rennes to finish around mid-table again in Ligue 1 this season.

Marseille Look to Bridge The Gap to PSG

Marseille finished second to PSG in Ligue 1 last season, though they may as well have been in a different league altogether, with PSG finishing 19 points above Roberto De Zerbi’s side, and that gap doesn’t look like it will close anytime soon. Marseille were pretty strong on the road last season, losing just six of their 17 away games, unsurprisingly only PSG boasted a better away record in Ligue 1 last season than Marseille.

Marseille won both head-to-head meetings between the sides last season, but both of these matches were very entertaining. Both games saw BTTS and over 2.5 goals, Marseille may have to score more than once here to claim all three points.

📊 Rennes v Marseille H2H

Marseille came away winners in both meetings between these sides last season, winning the initial clash 2-1 away from home before registering a 4-2 win over Rennes as the home side.

In fact, Marseille have won five of the last seven clashes between the pair.
