📈 Rennes v Monaco Form & Stats

Rennes are sitting on the edge of the European places having had a very consistent start to the season, but too many draws have prevented them from progressing higher up the table. They have lost only twice in the league so far, though, and back-to-back wins prior to the international break was really positive.

Rennes’ data metrics roughly agree with their upper mid-table position. They are 10th overall for expected goals, sixth for shots on target, and ninth for big chances created. This is balanced by the fact that they are only 14th out 18 for expected goals conceded, so there is definite room for improvement for Rennes, and something for Monaco to exploit.

It is almost the opposite form for Monaco, They have been flying high, winning six of the first 10 Ligue 1 matches, but two defeats just before the break, both at home, to upstarts Paris FC and then European place rivals Lens, have cast a shadow over the beginning of Sebastien Pocognoli’s reign.

Monaco actually top the whole league in terms of expected goals created, above the likes of PSG and Marseille. Oddly, this only translates into seventh for shots on target though, but they are second only to Lens in big chances created. As you can probably guess, there is work to be done defensively, Monaco rank only 11th best in the league for expected goals against.
