Romania’s qualifying campaign was hugely impressive. Unbeaten in 10 matches and finishing above Switzerland to take the top spot in the group, they come to Germany in great competitive form.

Built on the foundations of an excellent defence, Edward Iordanescu’s side will no doubt head to Germany looking to frustrate teams rather than outscore them, having only conceded an impressive five goals throughout the entirety of qualification.

Nicolae Stanciu is a wise old head in the Romanian dressing room, with 68 caps and 14 goals for the national side. He has also been in good form in the Saudi Pro League with six goals and seven assists in 28 games. His versatility in being able to play both centrally and on the right will mean he can slot in around Romania’s other midfield talents.
Radu Drăgușin moved from Genoa to Tottenham for €25m in January and is slowly being introduced to the Spurs side. He’ll be relatively fresh coming into the tournament and will be relishing the chance to be regularly starting games once again.
His no-nonsense throwback style to the days of tough tackling central defenders will be refreshing to watch, and he’ll be crucial to Romania’s hopes of continuing their fine defensive work in qualifying.
