St Johnstone Double Chance @ 1.37

Given the contrasting starts to the season that these two teams have made, I’m more than happy to side with St Johnstone on the Double Chance here at 1.36. The Saints won each of their four Scottish League Cup group stage games, and they have since made a real statement of intent by kicking off their Scottish Championship campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Partick Thistle.

Ross County, on the other hand, failed to progress from their Scottish League Cup section after being held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Stranraer on matchday one before losing their final group game 3-1 when hosting Partick Thistle. The Staggies also stumbled on the opening day of the league season last Saturday when drawing 2-2 with Airdrie.

Therefore, in-form St Johnstone look well placed to come away from this clash with a point at the very least.

Both Teams to Score @ 1.73

While the season is still in its infancy, I think there is enough evidence to suggest that goals could be on the agenda on Friday night. Each of Ross County’s last two matches have featured four goals, with both teams contributing to the scoring in each of those contests.

As for St Johnstone, they were on the right side of a 5-1 victory last weekend, not to mention there were goals at both ends when the Perth outfit faced East Kilbride and Raith Rovers during the group stage of the Scottish League Cup.

  • Ross County have failed to win three of their opening five matches of the season.

  • Both teams have scored in each of Ross County’s last two matches.

  • St Johnstone have won each of their opening five matches of the season.

  • Both teams have scored in three of St Johnstone's opening five matches of the season.

Both among the favourites to win this season’s Scottish Championship title, Ross County will square off with St Johnstone on Friday night.

Ross County are 2.32 favourites with St Johnstone 2.84 outsiders, while the draw is considered the most unlikely outcome of the three at 3.20.

Stuttering Start for the Staggies

Ross County were unable to bounce back from their Scottish League Cup exit after being held to a 2-2 draw away at Airdrie last Saturday. Don Cowie’s side looked to be on course to collect all three points on the opening weekend of the season before blowing a two-goal lead in the second half.

A combination of a relegation hangover and a heavy recruitment drive can perhaps be attributed to the Staggies’ slow start to the season. County will be hoping that a victory over St Johnstone will be the catalyst their season needs following their sluggish start to the campaign.

🔵 Saints on the March

As mentioned, St Johnstone hit the ground running in style last weekend with a 5-1 demolition of Partick Thistle. The Saints were dominant throughout that victory, enjoying 61% possession and racking up 20 shots, 11 of which hit the target.

Simo Valakari’s side also played with a real swagger during the group stage of the Scottish League Cup, most notably earning an 8-0 win over Elgin City. Forward Jamie Gullan has made an instant impact since joining the club in the summer, netting five goals in as many games.

📊 Ross County v St Johnstone H2H

The two teams came up against each other on four occasions in last season’s Scottish Premiership, with St Johnstone claiming top honours from three of those tussles while the other encounter ended 3-3. It’s also worth noting that Ross County failed to win three of their four meetings with the Saints two seasons ago, with their last success in this fixture stretching all the way back to August 2023.
