CA Platense v Patronato
🏟
Saturday 12th March – 12:30AM KO
We start this sixth round in Argentina with the match between CA Platense and Patronato. Both teams are in the battle against relegation, although recently Platense has put some distance to the bottom two and doesn’t seem in direct danger.
That is because Platense started the season well, with seven points in three games and they were even sitting in the play-off spots, but the following two matches ended in defeat, putting them in mid-table. Patronato have had a shocking start to the season, with only one point in five games and that cost manager Iván Delfino his job.
The problem has been the lack of goals. In fact, the only goal they scored was an unlucky own goal, so the lack of firepower up front seems to be the problem. They appointed Facundo Sava to solve this issue. Sava has worked at several small clubs in Argentina and his teams are known to be hard to beat.
The defence won’t need as much work, as they only once conceded more than one goal. Platense are not much different when it comes to defending, as three of their matches ended in 1-0.
That means that this game has got unders written all over it, but with the new manager in charge of the underdog, it is hard to say how Patronato will come out of the changing room. I’ll go with the fact that they’ll be hard to beat and minimum get a draw out of this.

Aldosivi v Tigre
🏟
Saturday 12th March – 8:00PM KO
Newly promoted Tigre were expected to play an important part in the relegation battle, but the side started the season very well and are even in the running for the play-offs. Tigre is a good footballing side that properly manages to exploit Ijiel Protti’s pace on the right wing. They come into this game on the back of a quality victory over Colon de Santa Fe in which they barely gave away chances.
Aldosivi is a completely different story, the side are close to the relegation spots and really needs the points to stay out of trouble. They had a perfect chance last week against pointless Barracas Central, but despite being in possession for the majority of the time, they failed to create many chances and ended up losing 2-1. The half hour against ten men didn’t make a difference either and that means trouble, especially with the important and tough game against Tigre coming up.
Aldosivi manager Martin Palermo announced changes for this game and winger Edwin Mosquera returns from injury, but I doubt he’ll be the solution. Tigre see four players returning from Covid infections to be available for this game, but the expectation is that manager Diego Martinez won’t make many changes from the side that beat Colon. With Tigre’s current form and the fact they have pretty much everyone available for this game, I see them as clear favourites for the victory.

Rosario Central v Barracas Central
🏟
Saturday 12th March – 10:15PM KO
Under new manager Alfredo Berti, Barracas managed to claim their first victory of the season, but against Rosario Central they face a whole different challenge. Rosario have had an acceptable start to the season with seven points from five games, with five goals in those games, but based on their xG, they should have had at least two more goals.
For this game, Rosario seem to be able to count on Marco Ruben again. The striker was the most important player last season, with 15 goals in 19 league games. He had to miss the last game due to several minor injuries, but on Monday he already trained with the group again and seems fit for this game. He has however struggled with fitness this season, so it could be that he won’t be risked with the important derby against Newell’s Old Boys next week.
Barracas Central will be without River Plate loanee Tomas Lecanda, who was sent off last game. The right back quietly claimed his spot in the side, but will have to sit this one out. I think Rosario will go out to find the victory here with Ruben commanding the attacking line and as Barracas haven’t been very good in defence, that should be a recipe for goals.

Talleres de Córdoba v San Lorenzo
🏟
Sunday 13th March – 12:30AM KO
Talleres vs San Lorenzo is a match between two teams in trouble. Talleres were second last season and despite losing several important players and the manager, expectations were high in Córdoba. But after two points in the first five games, new manager Angel Hoyos is already rumoured to be on an ultimatum to win this game or having to find a new job.
The manager hasn’t had much luck either as Colombian international Diego Valoyes has been injured so far. Nevertheless, the lack of goals is shocking, with one goal in the first five games. That goal came in the 93rd minute of the 2-1 defeat against Newell’s Old Boys when the game was already over. New striker Federico Girotti, who came on loan from River Plate, is slowly improving, but is far from convincing yet. Valoyes is finally recovering from his injury, but it is not clear whether he’ll be back in time to start this game.
Like Talleres, San Lorenzo are only on two points and are struggling through this season. Last game, against River Plate, they missed an early penalty and went on to lose that game 1-0, so the pressure on manager Pedro Troglio is rising. Apart from the match against Defensa y Justicia, where they missed several players, their defence has been their best feature and against Talleres that should result in a boring game with few goals.
