Guaireña vs Resistencia
🏟
Saturday 14th May – 9:00PM KO
Resistencia travel to Villarrica to take on a Guaireña side with one eye on their big Copa Sudamericana game in Ecuador next week. Troadio Duarte has certainly preferred continental glory to domestic stability, and we can expect to see plenty of players rested for Saturday afternoon’s game (local time) with the flight to Ecuador scheduled for Sunday.
The home side have only picked up one win in their last five Paraguayan Primera games and that was a 2-1 win against Sol de América who were reduced to ten men in the first half. Their conservative style means they boast a top half defense (ranked 5th in 12-team league) but they have struggled to find the net, registering just 13 goals in 15 games. Only bottom side General Caballero JLM and newly-promoted Tacuary (both 12) have scored less.
In contrast Resistencia have looked to play expansive football as is the style of their coach Roberto “Tiburón” Torres who previously won the Primera title managing Cerro Porteño and Libertad. Only league leaders Libertad have scored more this season, but the free-flowing football has come at a cost. The side from the Chacarita in Asunción have only kept two clean sheets, an opening day 1-0 win versus Tacuary and a recent 3-0 win over Sportivo Ameliano who played most of the second half a man down.
Given the contrasting styles the Overs market and BTTS seem unpredictable, the more prudent approach is to look at outcome rather than goals. Resistencia are hard to beat, losing just three games and with Guaireña almost certain to field a weakened side the double chance makes most sense.

Sportivo Ameliano vs Libertad
🏟
Sunday 15th May – 10:00PM KO
The V Azulada will take on league leaders Libertad in the Estadio Martín Torres, a neutral venue, on Sunday afternoon (local time). Humberto Garcia’s side recorded a rare win in midweek with a big 3-0 victory away to fellow promoted side General Caballero JLM. They are now unbeaten over two games for the first time this season. That run of form coincides with veteran forward Pablo Zeballos finding his way into the starting lineup, he provided two assists in the 2-2 draw versus 12 de Octubre before opening the scoring in the last match, his 117th goal in Paraguayan football.
Despite this recent resurgence, Ameliano should be no match for a Libertad side that has shown no signs of letting up as they steam towards the league title. The Gumarelo have won their last four games in Primera by a combined goal difference of 9-0. That defensive solidity is directly linked to the return of Alexandre Barboza who was suspended for most of the opening half of the season. Although they have lost topscorer Julio Enciso to injury there are plenty of players to fill that gap. Libertad have averaged 2.27 goals per game and should have no problem getting on the scoresheet against the league’s leakiest backline.
